Our school is helping all students develop the world-class skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by:
-
Engaging our students in critical thinking skills through innovative learning opportunities;
-
Encouraging students to create, design, and implement new ideas;
-
Challenging our students to set goals and follow through with action planning; and,
-
Focusing on rigorous teaching and learning opportunities in all areas of the curriculum.
We have established high expectations for student learning by implementing goal setting and conferences through our S.W.A.G. (Squires With Awesome Goals) initiative. We have implemented Performance-Based Objectives (PBOs) within our instructional framework to target our instructional focus to ensure it is standards-based, rigorous, and mastery based which will increase academic achievement in all academic areas.
Through our 1:1 technology program with Chromebooks, students are able to access educational platforms that supplement the instruction in the classroom to collaborate, create, design, and problem solve regularly. Our teachers and students also have access to Virtual Reality (VR) Goggles that bring the content to life through enhanced engagement, immersive learning, and accessibility.
Teachers attend Professional Learning Community (PLC) meetings to share best practices and to analyze authentic real time student work using a data protocol that prompts the teachers to design a plan of remediation and/or acceleration. Our STEM Program offers an extensive array of Project Lead the Way (PLTW) courses that include app creators, automation and robotics, computer science for innovators, design and modeling, flight and space, green architecture, and medical detectives. Our PLTW courses provide our students with the opportunity to explore possible careers in science, engineering, math, and technology.
In addition to our STEM Program, our students take advantage of our Arts and elective offerings that include: career exploration, choral and instrumental (band, guitar, orchestra, piano) music, digital and visual art, health, physical education, and world language. All of our students are afforded the opportunity to be creative, innovative, and enhance their interpersonal skills.
Lastly, students are encouraged to develop leadership and soft skills through clubs (battle of the books, bass fishing, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and student council) and athletics (competitive cheer, cross country, basketball, baseball, football, soccer, softball, and volleyball). Our Squire Volleyball team were “City Champs” for the 2023 season. Our band program performed at the SCBDA Concert Performance Assessment and Carowinds Music Festival and earned a Superior at both events, in addition to the Outstanding Performance Award - the highest award a band program can earn in the state of South Carolina!
Parent involvement is critical to the success of our school. Parents are encouraged to join our various booster clubs. In addition, parent workshops and family events are scheduled to encourage family participation and provide a platform for collaboration and learning among our community of learners. We are committed to serving our school community as we remain true to our belief that we are "Simply the Best!"
