Deer Park Middle School takes pride in our mission and vision to serve, lead, and prepare scholars and their families as they flourish on their developmental journeys into the College and Career Readiness world. We expect that students receive the utmost quality of education and life experiences that aid in their growth toward meeting the profile of a South Carolina Graduate. Opportunities provided to students within our halls are unlimited as our curriculum is formatted to galvanize rigor and achieve academic excellence. We support students in preparations for their secondary careers through offerings of earning high school credits in Spanish I, Discovering Computer Science, Algebra I Honors, and English I Honors. We also strive to produce well-rounded scholars as our curriculum incorporates exploratory courses (AVID, World Languages, Physical Education, Steel Drums, Art, Reading and Math Interventions, Computer Science and Project Lead The Way courses - Medical Detectives & App Creators) that meet the interests and desires of our goal-oriented population of scholars, all while addressing strides towards literacy growth targets. With cross-categorical interventions, our highly qualified educators create rigorous lessons that facilitate academic growth in every content area.
Through intentional instruction, we aim to equip scholars with the skills necessary to prepare them to become the most competitive contenders in their future endeavors. In doing so, developing scholars is all-encompassing and exceeds the parameters of achieving only academic excellence. Our curriculum surmounts standard objectives and fosters avenues for scholars to individualize their education to create a concrete foundation that strengthens character, initiative, and aspiration. Implementing programs such as AVID, PBIS, and special area curriculums, we develop scholars to address academic concerns and provide experiences that inspire creativity, ignite self-exploration, and instill a moral compass. Specifically, by incorporating AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination), we observed advancements in rigor, relevance, and relationships amongst our population. Using strategies such as WICOR (Writing, Inquiry, Communication, Organization, and Reading), we provided college and career readiness literacy practices in all subject areas.
The importance of community involvement and support has motivated our planning for outreach programs that privilege our scholars in experiencing real-life applications in advancements toward attaining the title of a South Carolina graduate. Through parent outreach events, outsourced guest speakers, participation in pragmatic curriculums such as AVID, various student performances by the DPMS Steel Drums Band, Robotics competitions, student basketball games, visits to the Center for Advanced Studies, and our excellent relationship with Northwoods Baptist Church, we can encapsulate a real-world perspective of the importance of academic excellence.
Deer Park Middle School recognizes that every scholar is capable of achieving success. We are privileged to have a very diverse population. In recognition, we aim to promote academic excellence while creating the least restrictive environment for every student. Within the halls of Deer Park Middle, we spotlight our many diversities through in-school celebrations, outsourced community group presentations, and intentional recognition events to ensure that every scholar finds value in their uniqueness and their unity of being a part of the Deer Park Family.
It is without hesitation that here at Deer Park, we acknowledge the value of our scholars. We know and understand that we are merely vessels in aiding the development of their limitless possibilities for a highly bright future. However, we take ownership of making it our personal responsibility to equip every scholar who enters our doors with the tools needed to succeed in their future College and Career Ready endeavors.
