Jerry Zucker Middle School of Science supports families and their scholars in developing the necessary skills for college and career readiness, as outlined in the Profile of a South Carolina Graduate. Serving scholars from the North Charleston area, our zone school and partial science magnet program offer a rigorous curriculum in all core subjects, as well as unique exploratory courses. Students have opportunities to earn high school credits in Honors English I, Honors Algebra I, Honors Biology I, Spanish I, and Discovering Computer Science.
To support scholars with literacy and numeracy deficiencies, we provide targeted intervention support systems, including intervention exploratory classes, push-in interventions, and flex periods. These interventions use a combination of digital learning platforms and direct instruction to enhance scholars' skills. Our comprehensive character education program, utilizing the Second Steps Curriculum and Restorative Practices, helps students develop interpersonal skills, accept responsibility, persevere in difficult situations, and regulate self-direction.
Understanding the importance of preparing scholars to compete in global markets, we focus on developing the whole child. We have partnered with Charleston County Department of Mental Health, MUSC Mental Health, and Communities in schools. We have also increased parent involvement with events such as Donuts for Dads, Muffins for Moms, and various other after hours events.
Committed to building community partnerships, we collaborate with numerous corporate, faith-based, and civic institutions, as well as the United States Air Force. These partnerships provide essential experiences that help our scholars become world-class learners. Additionally, we started a STEAM program by adding a STEAM teacher/coach to further enhance our students' education and to imbed STEAM skills in our core classrooms.
Our staff believes in the limitless potential of our scholars. Our exemplary teaching force, community involvement, and dedication to each student’s well-being guide our decisions. We are committed to implementing a rigorous curriculum while providing the necessary supports for each scholar to achieve college and career readiness.
We are proud to serve our scholars every day and look forward to continuing to strengthen the relationship between home and school, working together to ensure that we achieve our motto of serving “Every Student, Every Day, No Exceptions, No Excuses.”
