At Moultrie Middle School, our talented faculty and staff are dedicated to improving ALL students' critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creative skills—without exception. By focusing on the world-class skills outlined in the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate, Moultrie continues its rich legacy of excellence in academics, athletics, social-emotional development, and the fine arts.
This year, Moultrie was proud to be recognized as the #1 Neighborhood Middle School in the State, boasting the district's highest middle school report card rating. Our faculty members consistently raise the bar to improve Patriots’ critical thinking through rigorous, differentiated instruction tailored to meet the individual needs of all students. Our instructional focus on collaboration and student engagement led to significant achievement and growth gains during 2023-2024, as measured by MAP and other formative assessments.
To support the district’s goal of every child reading on grade level, we developed reading intervention and support classes, provided extra help during the school day, and adjusted our Tier 1 instruction. These efforts, coupled with the dedication and perseverance of Moultrie’s students and staff, made these gains possible.
Moultrie educators have high expectations for student achievement and nurture the whole student by fostering confidence and teaching self-advocacy, collaboration, and communication skills. This year, all students were exposed to the Second Steps SEL curriculum to promote strong relationships within our school community. A whole-school assembly at the start of the year further promoted unity and respect.
Our partnership with “Be A Mentor” positively impacted students by connecting them with outside mentors, and programs like Women In Charge and the Student Advisory Committee inspired a growth mindset throughout the student body. The leadership team continually finds creative ways to involve students in the school’s mission.
Moultrie offers a wide range of courses beyond core academics to facilitate creativity, collaboration, communication, and critical thinking. These include advanced art, jazz band, medical detectives, flight and space, green architecture, automation and robotics, and app creation. Students can also earn high school credits in courses such as Spanish 1, French 1, Algebra 1, Geometry, English 1, and Discovering Computer Science Parts 1 & 2.
Extracurricular activities, including clubs like chess, gardening, cooking, student government, quiz bowl, news team, Junior Beta Clubs, and even the milkshake club, encourage students to develop their skills and personal interests outside the classroom.
Our performing arts ensembles (chorus, orchestra, and band) are known for their critical thinking and creativity. At their performances this year, they were all three rated Superior with Distinction in grades 6th—8th. Our orchestra had three students selected for the All-State Orchestra and five for the All-State Band. Moultrie’s band earned the SCBDA Outstanding Performance Award, the highest award for band programs in SC.
At the core of Moultrie’s work is teaching Patriots the importance of being good citizens and giving back to others. Students participated in Autism Awareness and Anti-Bullying Week, celebrated World Kindness Day, and promoted Unity Day. Our community outreach efforts included service projects for organizations like Toys for Tots, Lowcountry Food Bank, Pet Helpers, Charleston Promise Neighborhood, Lowcountry Down Syndrome Association, and the US Armed Forces.
These achievements, coupled with the support of dedicated parents and community members, make us proud to be Moultrie Patriots.
