Life and Character Skills:
Leavelle McCampbell Middle School serves a diverse student body of 520 students. This year, we launched several initiatives aimed at enhancing academic achievement, reducing disciplinary issues, and increasing engagement among students, teachers, parents, and the community. A key focus was on leadership development and social-emotional learning during advisory time. As a proud Leader in Me school, we have instilled the seven habits of highly effective people in our students.
We are thrilled to announce that we have achieved the esteemed status of a Leader in Me Lighthouse School, making us the first in the Aiken County School District to receive this designation. Furthermore, Leavelle McCampbell has earned the national School to Watch Award, highlighting our growth in academic excellence, social equity, developmental responsiveness, and organizational structures. These achievements are a testament to the collaborative efforts of our dedicated educators, staff, supportive parents, and remarkable students.
Our students have been actively involved in leadership clubs and service projects, engaging with community partners and building a strong work ethic. Students participated in a variety of extracurricular leadership opportunities, contributing to initiatives such as food drives, school beautification, and community events. In addition to these opportunities, our Athletics Department offers football, volleyball, cheerleading, and basketball, and students also have the chance to participate in Midland Valley High School athletics. At LMMS, students can also engage in Student Lighthouse, Student Council, Beta Club, chorus, band, career guidance, school dances, quarterly academic recognition, LEGO Moments – Leading Every Growth Opportunity, ROCK Rubric Celebrations, field trips, and Lunch and Learns. As we look ahead to the 2024-2025 academic year, we remain committed to personalized learning, collective leadership, and the Leader in Me principles, which have been instrumental in reducing disciplinary incidents and enhancing our school culture.
World-Class Knowledge and Skills:
To provide a world-class education, our teachers at Leavelle McCampbell collaborate weekly to design challenging lessons, analyze student data, and share effective teaching strategies. We ensure that all students have access to advanced and accelerated courses, with eighth graders having the opportunity to earn high school credit in subjects like Honors Geometry, Honors English 1, and Fundamentals of Computing. Our school has embraced Active Learning strategies schoolwide, incorporating a variety of student-centered instructional methods to create meaningful, engaging activities. We also continue to support Empowered Instruction, a core component of Leader in Me, by promoting student ownership of learning. We celebrate our teachers as lifelong learners and believe that this is an important quality for our students to see in adults. Additionally, teachers and administrators have attended a number of conferences and training sessions to improve their own practice.
Our school benefits greatly from the strong support of our community, including partnerships with local organizations and businesses. The involvement of parents, community partners, and our PTO has been instrumental in organizing events and supporting our students' growth.
Leavelle McCampbell will continue striving for significant improvements in reading and math, reflecting our commitment to equipping students with the skills necessary for success in the South Carolina workforce. As we move forward, we remain dedicated to providing an outstanding education that prepares our students for a successful future.
