Gray Collegiate Academy (GCA) is helping all students develop World-Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate through a continued focus on visibility, accessibility, and academic excellence with our students, staff, parents, and community. In keeping with the traditions of Gray Collegiate Academy, we continued excellence and a high-level of satisfaction with the school and its administration as evidenced by faculty, parent, and student survey responses.
GCA uses a variety of strategies to ensure student success with in-person, synchronous, and asynchronous learning sessions. Tutoring and academic support are also available. Students are expected to take ownership of their own learning, demonstrate proficiency, and gain a deeper understanding in each academic discipline.
Academically, our senior class continues to break records with scholarship offers, this year receiving over $6 million in scholarships! This is an average of over $42,000 per graduate. Gray was proud to have seven Palmetto Fellows Scholarship recipients in the 2024 graduating class. This scholarship requires a 3.5 GPA or higher, a top 6% class ranking at the end of the student’s 10th, 11th, or 12th grade year, and a 1200 SAT or 25 ACT score.
In addition, we also had three students who qualified for the South Carolina Academic Achievement Honors Award. To qualify for this award a student must meet one of the following qualifications: a 710 or higher on the SAT Verbal section, a 690 or higher on the SAT Mathematics section, a 30 or higher on the ACT English section, or a 33 or higher on the ACT Mathematics section, or a 31 ACT Composite score.
Our Senior class has shown great academic success this past year, as noted by the stoles and cords that they wore at graduation. The gold cord represents honors, marked by a 3.5 to 3.99 GPA. Of our 137 graduates we had 37 students graduate with this cord. We also have the gold stole that represents high honors, marked by a 4.0 or higher GPA. 77 of our 137 graduates this year received this stole.
Athletically, 43% of our senior athletes signed or received scholarship money for college. The national average is 6%. Gray won 12 Region titles this past year, had 53 All-Region players, 7 Coaches of the Year, 26 All-State players, 5 Upper State Championships, 2 Upper State title appearances, 2 State Runner-up titles in boys’ soccer and football, and won 5 State Championships in boys’ basketball, competitive cheerleading, girls’ track and field, girls’ relay swimming, and boys’ 4 x 100 track and field..
Growth continued at GCA this year with the addition of two 6th grade classes. We are looking forward to adding two more 6th grade classes for the 2024-2025 school year.
Gray continues to retain and recruit hard-working faculty, staff, and coaches to maintain the excellent focus on success both academically and athletically. We will continue to produce students that are ready to compete in the global market by producing World-Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate.
