Purpose Driven and Future Ready
Richland Northeast High School, a National Certified Demonstration Magnet School, has been part of the Northeast Columbia community since 1978 and this past fall marked 45 years of continued growth and innovation. We opened the doors for the 2023-2024 school year concluding the multi-year construction project with an expanded and reconstructed cafeteria, enclosed hallways connecting the first floor to all school buildings, a completed collaboration space in the C building, and updated HVAC, paint, and lighting. Our facilities support the innovation and excellence that happen in the classroom.
Our commitment grows more profound to providing a high-quality education for students that nurtures the development of global thinkers and problem solvers. Richland Northeast High School is helping all students to develop the world class skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by delivering opportunities for every child, every day, giving them every chance to succeed. Richland Northeast will be the leading high school of excellence in academics, the arts, and athletics by affording each student the opportunity to be enrolled, enlisted, or employed, and our graduates leave Richland Northeast knowing how to learn using critical thinking and problem-solving; collaboration and teamwork; and communication, information, media, and technology skills.
Innovative Academic Opportunities
Richland Northeast seeks to bring out the best in each student by offering lessons and learning experiences that expand their minds and broaden their creativity and innovation. One example is through our AVID Program, where we were named an Emerging Schoolwide AVID School. Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) is a system for all students to lead and excel academically while experiencing the rigors of high-level courses. Students can also explore their creativity and innovation through our Career and Technical Education offerings, including Culinary Arts, Business Management, Health Science, Cosmetology, Computer Programming, Entrepreneurship, and more.
We are home to multiple magnet programs. Horizon, an academic magnet for highly motivated, academically talented students; The Palmetto Center for the Arts, which offers dance, music, theater, and visual arts; and Convergence Media, a nationally award-winning, journalism program.
This year, we transitioned from an International Baccalaureate World School program to the Advanced Placement Capstone Program. The AP Capstone program allows students to take multiple AP courses, as well as AP Seminar and AP Research, to prepare them for college and offer a higher level of learning that equips students with better writing and critical thinking skills to be successful worldwide.
Richland Northeast is known across the country for its award-winning Convergence Media program, one of the top three high school journalism programs in the country. Students in this program often team up with school and district administrators to research, create, and disseminate news and information. Students are experiencing great success and have won multiple awards recently, including several first-place South Carolina Scholastic Press Association (SCSPA) awards, and received the Broadcast Pacemaker Award for the third year in a row. Cav Plex is one of only nine schools in the country to earn this prestigious award.
Palmetto Center for the Arts earned many regional and state awards for music, theater, and visual arts. One dance student has been accepted into The Juilliard School, a prestigious fine arts school, as a freshman college student for the 2024-2025 school year.
Collaboration and Teamwork
Richland Northeast has also seen significant growth in the arts and athletics. Richland Northeast was proud to cheer many athletic programs, including girls' basketball, boys' basketball, and football, into the regional playoffs and to welcome the inaugural Cavalier Track and Field Relay event this spring. Twelve of our student-athletes signed to commit to playing athletics at the collegiate level.
Enrolled, Enlisted, or Employed
The ability of students to succeed beyond our campus is a daily priority. Thus, the administration, teachers, and staff work each day to ensure that academic programs remain among the most relevant, challenging, and enriching for our students. This is accomplished with the support of students, families, teachers, staff, and a devoted School Improvement Council. Together, we ensure our students leave 7500 Brookfield Road prepared to embark upon their individual pathways to success.
