Dreher High School is helping all students develop the world-class skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the SC Graduate by demonstrating high levels of achievement in academics, arts, athletics, and service at the local, state, and national levels. Over 90% of the faculty have advanced degrees beyond the undergraduate level. US News and World Report recognized Dreher among “America’s Best High Schools,” rating our school as the #1 high school in Richland One, #3 in the Midlands, and #14 in South Carolina. Our school is one of the first high schools in our state designated as an AP Capstone Diploma Program School, and the College Board named Dreher a Bronze AP Honor Roll School. Dreher’s tradition continues to build on the high standards it demands in academics, arts, athletics, and activities.
Academic offerings include over 24 AP courses with passage rates well above the national average and six engineering courses in our Project Lead the Way program. Other CTE opportunities include:
- The Richland One Heyward Career Center programs.
- The addition of our Business Finance completer courses.
- Teacher Cadet.
The Chinese program, first pioneered at Dreher, continues to flourish, as does our entire world languages program. Multiple students passed state and national language exams in Chinese and French, German, Latin, and Spanish. The accomplishments of our fine arts students continue to be a source of great school and community pride. The Dreher Band, Dreher Chorus, and Dreher Orchestra received the highest possible rating, Superior, by the SC Music Educators Association, with dozens of students recognized as honors, all-region, and all-state performers. Our Dreher Theatre students, again, earned numerous superior ratings for ensemble and solo performances. The Dreher Dance Company continues to be recognized as one of the best in the state.
With approximately 32 sports teams and over 50 clubs and activities, Dreher offers students opportunities to explore interests and to engage in many local, state, and national activities. Dreher’s commitment to the community includes student work with Prisma Health, the American Cancer Society, the MS Walk, Families Helping Families, Harvest Hope, the American Red Cross, the Breast Cancer Society, the United Way, 100 Black Men, the Backpack Weekend Program, the Wounded Warrior Project, and the Artists for Africa Project. Over the school year, we greatly succeeded in athletics, as multiple Blue Devil teams made the playoffs while dozens of students were named to all-region and all-state teams. In 23-24, 10 Dreher athletic teams won region championships, and we boasted seven region coaches of the year.
The Blue Devil Nation remains committed to partnering with parents and the community to provide all students with a learning environment that enriches academic, vocational, and personal growth. Our dedication to student growth is unwavering, ensuring that every student at Dreher has the opportunity to reach their full potential.
