Our school is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing a structured, safe, and nurturing environment where students can excel in academics, athletics, and the arts. We offer numerous curricular and extracurricular activities to meet the needs of our diverse student population where they can develop the skills of creativity, communication, collaboration, teamwork, creativity and innovation. Students may participate in Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Beta Club, Science Club, Student Council, Poetry Club, Gentlemen’s Club, and Backpack Buddies. Students also have the opportunity to participate in the Fine Arts program including drama, chorus, art, and the marching band. We offer Spanish and French foreign language classes.
With a focus on academics, students have an opportunity to take College Preparatory, Honors, Advanced Placement and Dual Enrollment courses to further develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Additionally, students may take courses of study at the Academy for Careers and Technology, the Lake City Continuum, or apply for the Early College Program. Non-diploma students are served in our Employability Credentials Program. Marion High School is committed to preparing students to graduate with the education and skills necessary to become productive members of an ever-changing society and who are College or Career Ready.
Academic assistance programs are provided through after-school teacher remediation, content and credit recovery, seat time recovery and summer school. We continue to focus on improving our standardized test scores and graduation rate, dropout rate by providing mentoring, counseling, character development as well as other interventions.
Some of our most notable accomplishments this year include the implementation of a Freshman Academy to ease the transition to high school. We are exceptionally proud of students earning perfect scores on the End of Course exams in English, US History, and Biology. Art students were juried into the State Fair Student Art Competition for the high school division. Band, Art and Chorus students showcased in the Annual Art in the Park.
One student earned recognition as a member of the district and region Honors Band. We are equally proud of our previous year’s four SC Teaching Fellows and to have an Army JROTC program recognized as an Honor Unit of Distinction.
Marion High School has an outstanding Jobs for America’s Graduates program where students are actively engaged in leadership and training activities. They participated in the South Carolina Grand Strand Students In Action Conference and the JAG-SC Leadership Development Conference where several students were recognized. Other activities included a Mental Health Awareness Activity, career expo, and positive words of affirmation activity, to name a few.
Members of the National BETA Club are actively involved in service opportunities. They organized a Red Cross Blood drive, participated in the Huntington State Park Beach Sweep, provided tutoring services, assisted with PBIS incentives and attended the State Beta Convention. One BETA member was selected to participate at the National Beta Convention.
We are exceptionally proud of our student athletes. Students demonstrated the Life and Career skills of integrity, perseverance, work ethic, and interpersonal skills as they competed against like and unlike schools. Students were named All State and All Region athletes and one Player of the Year. Several of our football athletes were members of the All-Blitz Team Offense and the All-Zone Football Team. Our men’s basketball program earned the title of Region Champions and our Softball team was the undefeated Lower State Champions and State 2A 1st runners up with the coach being named the Coach of the Year.
Despite our many accomplishments, we recognize our challenges and are committed to continuous growth and improvement.
