Brookland-Cayce High School strives to produce the ideal graduate with world class knowledge and skills as well as college and career preparedness to compete and achieve in a 21st century global society, stressing rigorous academics, the arts, athletics, leadership, and local and state service. We have established a clear mission for Brookland-Cayce High School, in which we focus on educating and protecting the whole student through academic, social, and emotional support with a community focus.
The academic offerings include 19 AP courses, and Brookland-Cayce High School was one of the first in our state to receive the AP Capstone Diploma Program designation. The 2023-2024 academic year saw a record-breaking passage rate for Advanced Placement examinations, as well as an increase in the number of students taking them, bringing us closer to matching the global average. As of April 2024, Brookland-Cayce High School is proud to announce one National Merit Scholarship winner. We also had 101 honors graduates from among 230 Class of 2024 graduates. Brookland-Cayce also collaborates with Midlands Technical College to meet the needs of students pursuing post-secondary education, which will lead to career certifications or an associate degree while still in high school. This program had 13 graduating seniors, with 5 obtaining an associate degree from Midlands Tech and 8 earning a general studies certificate. This remarkable senior class received over $6 million in scholarships, and its graduates will attend premier universities across the state and country.
Through their remarkable efforts and achievements, Brookland-Cayce High School's arts programs demonstrate a commitment to world-class knowledge. During the 2023-2024 school year, each of the theater, dance, and music departments performed at least two concerts. Many students were accepted to the District Honor Choir, District Honor Band, District Honor Orchestra, All-State Band, and All-State Orchestra. Students can also explore a future in education through our Teacher Cadet program or a military career within our award-winning JROTC program. Brookland-Cayce maintains its excellent sports legacy, with nearly all of its teams reaching the playoffs and several Class of 2024 athletes signing to play collegiately. Student council representatives welcomed families and community members to holiday and special events, as well as a variety of other activities such as contribution drives and primary school mentorship programs.
Brookland-Cayce High School's well-rounded faculty continued collaborative best practices through Professional Learning Communities, which meet weekly to ensure a student-centered learning environment. We have a strong core of veteran teachers who bring experience and leadership to our building. Some younger staff members have brought a wealth of knowledge and current educational practices to our building. According to our school report card, Brookland-Cayce's school climate has consistently received excellent scores from teachers, parents, and students. A variety of community organizations, including the Brookland-Cayce High School Education Foundation, the School Improvement Council, and the Booster Club, contribute to the school's welcoming climate.
The Bearcat Nation remains committed to developing in students the world class knowledge and skills along with Life and Career Characteristics that lay the foundation for success in school and beyond. We work with parents and the community to offer all students a learning environment that promotes academic, vocational, and personal development, allowing our graduates to "Go Forth and Serve."
