Lexington High School is committed to our students achieving the World-Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. LHS, where excellence is the standard, wants to develop lifelong learners who meet the demands of a global society. In partnership with parents, students, educators, and community members, we provide curriculum and instruction that encourage both diversity and unity, develop integrity and character, and promote initiative and collegiality among our students. We will continue our quest to prepare students for success in college, career, citizenship, and life, emphasizing world-class knowledge and life and career characteristics.
In order to support mastery of knowledge and skills for our students, LHS faculty focused on a year-long teacher-led curriculum design to eliminate inconsistencies and establish what students are supposed to learn or get the opportunity to learn, what gets assessed and what is actually learned. Teacher leadership capacity and providing professional learning opportunities where educators have the autonomy to design their curriculum play pivotal roles in promoting teacher quality. Through our 23-24 Professional Learning Plan, empowering teachers to take on leadership roles within Lexington High School fosters a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement. When teachers lead professional development sessions or mentor their peers, they deepen their understanding of instructional practices and subject matter expertise. Teacher Leaders/Department Chairs focused on side-by-side coaching and created interdepartmental roles to support the immersion of curriculum design using the learner profile. By investing in teacher leadership capacity and professional learning opportunities that prioritize autonomy and collaboration, Lexington High School will continue cultivating a cadre of highly effective educators better equipped to meet the dynamic demands of 21st-century education.
The success of our students is a reflection of the commitment of our dedicated, caring and professional teachers. The graduating class of 2024 was no exception, boasting 528 graduates, 44 Palmetto Fellows, 371 LIFE/HOPE scholarship-eligible recipients, and earning $69.2 million in scholarship money. According to our 12th grade School Counseling End-of-Year Survey for 12th graders, seniors self-reported that 79% will be attending college (2- or 4-year), 12% will go into the workforce, 6% trade school or undecided, and 3% will be joining the military. With 417 seniors attending college in the fall, the top three destinations chosen by the Class of 2024 were Midlands Technical College, University of South Carolina and Clemson University. The success of our students is a reflection of the commitment of our dedicated, caring, and professional teachers. Our seniors have been well-prepared for their future, and we are excited to see the positive impact they will have on our community.
As we proudly celebrate the 112th graduating class of Lexington High School, we will continue to focus on an experience where students will develop skills and dispositions to empower them as effective learners and leaders in our schools and community while modeling the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate and the Lexington One Graduate Profile.
