Myrtle Beach High School students represent a wide variety of socio-economic backgrounds with all of our feeder schools being served as Title 1 campuses. The Seahawk student body is beautifully diverse with upwards of twenty-five percent qualifying as Multi-lingual learners. At present, there are thirty-five countries represented and twenty-nine languages spoken by our students. We continually challenge our students through a rigorous blended learning format that integrates research-based instructional practices from highly qualified teachers, digital content that provides essential formative data on each individual student, and instructional delivery models that promote greater personalization of learning.
Safety, academic achievement, and the socio-emotional well-being of our stakeholders continue to serve as the foundation of all decisions made throughout the year.
Myrtle Beach High School offers: Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Engineering, Dual-Enrollment Opportunities through a partnership with Horry-Georgetown Technical College, Teacher Cadet through a partnership with Coastal Carolina University, Work-Based Learning with Health Science internships, Accounting, General Management, Sports Medicine, Web and Digital Communications, NJROTC, Theater, Art, Music, College Prep and a plethora of Honors Level and Advanced Placement Courses. The combination of project-based learning, blended rotational models, and integrated digital content ensure Myrtle Beach High School students develop the needed 21st-century skills and competencies to be able to compete at the highest levels in a global society.
Myrtle Beach High School continues to grow its opportunities for students
athletically and artistically. During the 2023-2024 school year, our NJROTC Program continued to excel. Our NJROTC program was recognized as a Distinguished Unit for the 10th consecutive year and was ranked as the #3 program in the state of South Carolina. MBHS NJROTC drill, marksmanship, drone, and orienteering teams are all consistent top three finishers when competing. Cadets have completed hundreds of hours of school support and community service work. The program was rated as overall outstanding during the most recent Area Manager Inspection, with the inspector noting that "Myrtle Beach NJROTC is a nationally prominent program and a great example of what every NJROTC unit should strive to become."
Seahawk athletics excelled claiming region championships in Boys Swims, Girls Tennis, Boys Tennis, Boys Soccer, Girls Soccer, and Boys Golf. For the third year in a row, MBHS competed for the State Title in Boys Tennis. We claimed the State Title in Individual Girls Golf. The Seahawks also claimed a State Championships in Boys Swimming and Wrestling.
In the performing arts department, eleven Seahawks were honored as members of the All-County Chorus. Seahawk Show Choir received the highest ranking of Superior and first place for Show Choir at the Music in the Parks competition performance in Williamsburg, Virginia. 6 students were selected to be in All County Orchestra, one of which was granted a full scholarship to attend Summer Music Camp at Charleston Southern University. Another student from the All County group was selected to perform in the Region V Orchestra. 21 string players traveled to Williamsburg, Va in May to perform with Music in the Parks competition and received 2nd place. Throughout the course of the 2023-2024 school year, Seahawk Stings performed at Open House, Veteran’s Day Assembly, Holiday and Spring Concerts as well as a side by side concert with our feeding middle school’s orchestra. The Seahawk band participated in multiple competitions during the fall with ratings of excellent overall at all four and the drumline received a superior rating at their final show. In addition, the band participated in the City of Myrtle Beach’s Martin Luther King Jr. Parade as part of the HCS All-Star Marching band. The concert band performed at the school’s annual winter program as well as the MBHS Veteran’s Day Celebration, the ROTC AMI Ceremony, and the year ending Night of Hope Variety Show. Theatre earned an Excellent Rating at the HCS All-County Theatre Festival for their production of Queens. They also won Best Makeup & Costumes as well as Best Ensemble. The MBHS International Thespian Society Chapter sponsors the fall competition play, holiday show, spring musical, and the annual induction ceremony.
In the coming year, MBHS will continue integrating innovative ways to inspire new possibilities within our students. We will always uphold and create reverence for the sacred trust our parents and community have placed in us to prepare a new generation for college, careers, and citizenship.
