This progressive approach reimagines how we prepare students for future success by integrating rigorous academics with hands-on, career-focused learning experiences. The Career Academy model is designed to align students' educational experiences with their career aspirations, ensuring they graduate not only with a diploma but with a clear pathway to their future goals.

Our journey begins with the Freshman Academy, a dedicated program designed to support our ninth-grade students as they transition from middle school to high school. The Freshman Academy focuses on providing a strong academic foundation, fostering essential skills, and promoting personal growth. With a team of dedicated teachers and counselors, we ensure that every freshman receives the guidance and support they need to succeed academically and socially. This nurturing environment helps students develop good study habits, time management skills, and a sense of belonging, setting the stage for their high school journey.

Following the Freshman Academy, students at Strom Thurmond High School have the opportunity to join one of two dynamic Career Academies:

• Human Services and Business Academy: 

  • Preparing students for careers in healthcare, this academy offers courses in medical terminology, anatomy, and patient care, coupled with internships at local hospitals and clinics.  

  • Equipping students with essential skills for the business world, this academy offers classes in entrepreneurship, marketing, and computer science, alongside partnerships with local businesses for internships and mentorships.

• STEAM Academy: 

  • Focusing on security, technology, education, arts manufacturing, this academy provides students with the opportunity to engage in advanced coursework and participate in cutting-edge projects and competitions.  

  • Nurturing creative talents, this academy offers programs in visual arts, music, and theater, providing students with opportunities to showcase their work and engage with the community.

  • Addressing the growing demand for skilled tradespeople, this academy offers hands-on training in fields such as automotive technology, welding, and construction, often in collaboration with local industries and technical colleges.

At the heart of our Career Academy model is the Strom Thurmond Career and Technology Center (STCTC), a state-of-the-art facility that provides students with unparalleled access to cutting-edge equipment, industry-standard tools, and professional expertise. The STCTC enhances our comprehensive curriculum by offering specialized programs and courses that are directly aligned with industry needs and standards.
