2023-2024 LVHS SUMMER SURVEY NARRATIVE
Lake View High School SIC’s mission is to serve as a school advisory council that involves parents and community members who will support and assist the school’s administration and teachers in their innovative efforts to improve the overall quality of the school for students.
The purpose of Lake View High School is to empower students with critical inquiry and research skills, problem-solving skills, and a value for intellectual curiosity and social responsibility so they can be future leaders and thinkers to advance the roles of science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics in society. With this purpose as the center piece, LVHS is proud to present to parents, teachers, students, and community members the SIC annual report.
In the small but energetic town of Lake View, South Carolina are the Wild Gators of Lake View High School. It is the home of 520 academically and athletically talented students in grades 6th through 12th. Mr. Chris Ray serves as our principal. This is his first year in this role. Lake View High School has climbed the ladder of success and won. Lake View High School was the recipient of the impressive award of the Palmetto Gold for the 2009-2010 school year. In addition, LVHS has reached GOLD six times.
With a focus on rigor, relevance, and relationships, Lake View High School will continue its commitment to enhance and improve the academic performance of each student. Curriculum planning and the implementation of standards-based instruction has continued to positively impact student achievement. A comprehensive testing plan for the 2022-2023 school year was developed using data from state and district mandated tests: EOC, SC READY, SCPASS, iReady, R2W, Exact Path, and The ACT programs also provided interventions to assist at-risk students. Lake View High School has also provided Scholarship and Financial Aid Workshops for students and parents, as well as dual credit and advanced placement (AP) opportunities.
Goals and Strategies for Improvement
- Continue the South Carolina Teaching Standards (SCTS) model to allow teachers to gain knowledge related to state expectations for student growth.
- Continue the South Carolina Teaching Evaluation process with the use of Student Learning Objectives which are content-specific, grade level learning objectives that are measurable, focused on growth in student learning, and aligned to curriculum standards.
- Continue collaborative groups to refine curricula, as well as design formal and informal assessments that reflect the higher levels of the Depth of Knowledge.
- Plan and implement an 8th grade end of the year induction program, “Sub-Freshman Night”, to introduce parents and students on the requirements for high school.
- Continue to use Exact Path sand iReady data to drive instruction and determine scheduling, including enrichment mathematics and reading classes.
- Continue with the current credit retrieval plan to provide alternatives to students who require extended time to earn graduation credits.
- Continue to use the Darius Leonard Maniac Incentive Challenge program to reward academic performance, attendance, wellness, and success.
- Provide professional development opportunities for teachers in content, assessment, methodology, and technology.
- Establish lines of communication with parents through School Messenger, School Website, Peachjar, weekly telephone calls, and conferences.
- Align the curriculum, including STEM classes, to include World Class Knowledge, World Class Skills, and Life & Career Characteristics to ensure that students will meet the goals on the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate.
- Provide all students with one-to-one devices to assist with online instruction.
- Implement social and emotional activities to support in classes to improve outcomes for the whole child.
- Continue to implement the Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) for all students. MTSS will be used to improve Tier 1, Tier II, and Tier III instruction for all students and to problem-solve for students who need additional support academically, socially, and or emotionally.
