The Military Magnet Academy (MMA) operates with the purpose of creating opportunities that give cadet scholars the option to successfully enter the global workforce, a college/university of choice, or pursue success in our United States armed services. The staff is dedicated to making sure cadet scholars have the skill set that meets the standards and expectations established in the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate.
The mission of MMA is to achieve academic excellence, develop citizenship, and promote self-discipline in a military environment that challenges and positively impacts cadet scholars daily. The collaboration and partnership with not only cadet scholars but also with parents and community stakeholders provide a foundation for success in today’s world of advanced technology; it further supports the continued vision of creating leaders in the 21st century.
At MMA, remediation and enrichment interventions are provided through computer-assisted instruction including DBQ On-Line, Achieve3000, NoRedInk, IXL, Khan Academy, and ALEKS in order to address areas of growth in mathematics, English, science, and social studies. With assistance and support made possible with the CCSD board approved WSF funding, a full remediation, enrichment, and test preparation program has been prepared for implementation during the 2024 - 2025 academic year. The intent and purpose of providing this resource is the intentional attention to aligning student academic achievement with the successful academic growth rate we have experienced annually in the past. Additionally, to maintain and exceed in the future previous levels of academic success, we want to also provide the necessary SEL services and assistance to positively impact instruction and learning.
As a school, the focus is on promoting and developing 21st century world-class skills, fostering a nurturing and safe environment for children, using data to inform instruction, and consistently implementing instructional strategies to increase student achievement. The implementation of these strategies has resulted in an increase in the number of scholars entering high school being capable of meeting the expected performance level on South Carolina’s end-of-course assessments in Algebra, English, Biology, and United States History.
Military Magnet Academy cadet scholars will experience real world collaboration with local businesses and organizations, additional opportunities with 21st century vocational training, as well as completer recognition and certifications in career and technology education work paths. Our partnership with Trident Technical College and other local universities provides cadets with dual high school and college credits in English, mathematics, social sciences, and world languages. For the 2024 – 2025 academic year, we are looking to increase the number of Advanced Placement credit courses offered in our content catalog, while also increasing the number of scholars participating in the programs at the Cooper River Center for Advanced Studies.
The Military Magnet Academy Staff has completed multiple hours of professional development and learning focused on developing appropriate relationships with scholars, the use of 21st century instructional practices for differentiating instruction, and implementing technology across all core and related arts curriculum courses. As an organization, we believe the school, family, and community must share in the educational responsibility of our cadets, and we humbly thank stakeholders for their support of future South Carolina graduates and world leaders!
