Griggs Road Elementary is helping all students develop the World Class Skills and Life and Career Characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by implementing a rigorous Pre-kindergarten, Montessori, kindergarten through fifth grade curriculum and by providing a variety of co-curricular opportunities for our students.
The focus of the faculty, staff, administration, and parent organizations at Griggs Road Elementary School is to foster caring relationships in a safe environment where the whole child feels supported, empowered and celebrated. Through continuous professional development, Griggs Road teachers, administrators and support staff develop and implement personalized learning instruction for all students. All teachers, instructional assistants, and administrators facilitate What I Need (WIN) groups three times per week. These groups target students' academic, social and emotional needs to support growth in all areas. WIN groups allow for students to strengthen relationships with peers and staff throughout the year.
The Clover School District is a one-to-one district. All students in Pre-K, Kindergarten, Montessori and 1st through 5th grades have an iPad assigned to them through our district technology department. Students integrate the use of technology to support daily instruction. Presently, 100% of our students PK through fifth grade take advantage of a take-home option which extends learning beyond the classroom.
Griggs Road encourages students to be good citizens by emphasizing co-curricular activities that incorporate service learning and character education. Students are able to participate in the various clubs such as:: Bucket Drumming, Chorus, Art Club, Girls on the Run, , Student Ambassadors, Safety Patrol, Recycle Club, Bible Release, and Library Helpers, Gardening Club, Coding Club.
Highlighting student strengths is a focus for our school. In the 2023-2024 school year, GT dance and GT art classes for 4th and 5th grade students allow for select students to showcase their artistic talents and allow Griggs Road staff to continue to foster growth in the whole child. Students are recognized for a variety of accomplishments during our monthly Mindset Monday Pep Rally as well as Student of the Month recognition. SOARing Eagles are recognized quarterly for their actions displaying the qualities of: Safety, Owning your actions, Academic excellence, and Respect for self and others. Griggs Road Elementary is a recipient of the 2022-2023 Palmetto Gold Award for High Performance.
Parent involvement is important to the culture of Griggs Road. Our School Improvement Council (SIC) and PTO members contribute their time and talents to many projects/activities at our school. In the 2023-2024 school year, as a result of PTO sponsored fundraiser event, Griggs Road was able to equip the school with educational supplies for all classrooms, school t-shirts for all students, technology equipment for the cafeteria, a new kiln for the art room, scholarships for students of need for learning experiences outside of the classroom, teacher and staff appreciation days, Family Bingo Night, and student achievement reward opportunities. Parent volunteers contribute to the overall success of our school by giving their time to help with and participate in various school/community events.
We realize state testing is one piece of data for student achievement. CSD and Griggs Road use multiple sources of data to drive instruction and monitor student progress. Our district is committed to working with students and parents to prepare students to become College and Career Ready upon their graduation from high school. Griggs Road Elementary will continue to work to provide opportunities to develop World Class Knowledge, World Class Skills, and Life and Career Characteristics so that all student will be successful in their future endeavors.
