Hendrix Elementary IB World School is helping students develop the characteristics of the Profile of the SC Graduate by providing a safe, caring, and academically challenging learning environment. Hendrix continues to shine and make a difference in our community and around the world by offering a variety of academic opportunities blended with community outreach projects and applications within the arts. This year, we were recognized as the first school in Spartanburg District 2 to become an Arts in Basic Curriculum School (ABC). We strive to achieve a comprehensive arts education (dance, music, media arts, theatre, visual arts, and creative writing) for all students. HES is home to the Wildcat JV and Varsity Dance Team State Champions. It is our goal to unite people both near and far through education and outreach.
HES faculty and staff provide differentiated, student-centered instruction based on the state standards o learning in an IB environment. This approach prepares students to become active, life-long learners and responsible world-class citizens. We seek to have local and global partnerships that make a daily impact changing perspectives to empower others and ourselves through the integration of research, service, and academic programming.
Local and global partnerships with faith-based organizations, community organizations, small businesses, corporations, schools, agencies, colleges and universities, share resources to help expand inquiry-based educational practices, global perspectives, and support amongst the community in which we serve. Advancements in technology are utilized to provide differentiated and personalized instruction through the use of iPads. This year, families enjoyed a variety of engagement opportunities like our 21st Century Learning Grant Program (CCLC), Positive Parenting Program (Triple P) Nights, D2 Reads: Mysteries According to Humphrey, K-5th Grade Fine Arts Nights, Wildcat Dancers, Frozen Kids Musical, Book Talk Totes, and 5th Grade Exhibition and Recognition Night. Families also participated in our favorite community engagement events: Family Fiesta, Field Day at School, and the International Cherry Blossom Festival. The fifth grade teachers led students through events that helped spark their curiosity. We had a record number of attendees at our 2023-24 Fifth Grade IB Exhibition this year. Students were challenged to research a topic that they were interested in. Something different we did this year to help students think through the action component, was that they were also asked to find a non-profit organization that supported their topic. They researched the organizations and discovered ways people are already making a difference in this area.
We know that Hendrix Elementary IB World School will continue to strive to be at the forefront of student leadership and academic excellence through these authentic experiences. We are grateful for our parental support and that of the surrounding community for their continued commitment to our school. Together we can make a difference!
