Brockman Elementary School students are developing world-class skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. Our students benefit from a high-fidelity Montessori public school program. The primary tenet of the Montessori philosophy is that a child learns best in an enriched/supportive environment, where exploration, discovery, collaboration, and creative thinking are the norm.
Brockman's staff consists of highly qualified Montessori-certified educators.
Brockman's leadership team, including the principal, assistant principal, curriculum resource teacher, and reading coach, is endorsed by Montessori. All of Brockman's classroom teachers are Montessori-endorsed. Our Montessori teachers' "guides" are observers who are invaluable in evaluating each child's academic, emotional, and social progress, interests, and personality while allowing each child the space to practice independence and responsibility.
Students at Brockman consistently demonstrate strong academic achievement. The 2023 South Carolina state report card indicated that Brockman's performance in academic achievement and student progress is helping students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate.
In 2017, Brockman received the U.S. Department of Education's National Blue Ribbon Award - an exemplary high-performing school among the state's highest-performing schools as measured by state assessments or nationally normed tests. Brockman also received national recognition from the Alliance for a Healthier Generation as a national Gold Awardee, the first in the state of S.C. and one of only fourteen nationally. Brockman is a "Breathe Better School" and nationally recognized as a "Let's Move/Active Schools" recipient.
Brockman is committed to creating a school environment that promotes and protects the well-being of students and staff. Our school community is engaged in FUNd Run annually. This PTO fundraising event challenges students, staff, and parents to run continuously for 20 minutes. Brockman's Bears on Track is an after-school running club for staff and students that culminates in a 5K run. The school also hosts a 4H club where students, parents, and staff meet after school to create and maintain a school garden and learn about the natural world. Brockman students also participate in Richland One's annual Fitness Bowl competition. This district-wide event promotes the benefits of a physically active lifestyle.
At Brockman, we will continue to strive to fulfill our mission of academically and socially growing students. Hence, they develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. Brockman's administration and teachers are committed to continuing our tradition of providing a strong Montessori foundation for all students through personalized and collaborative learning experiences.
