Our school is helping all students develop the World-Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by ensuring they receive rigorous standards-based instruction focused on high levels of student mastery and daily student engagement in every classroom. Our school's focus was to ensure that all students were authentically engaged in real-world learning experiences that were both standards-based and culturally relevant, engaging, and rigor-filled.
Through ongoing research-based professional development, instructional research-based best practices, and targeted student interventions, students are provided quality instruction to become successful learners. Teachers and paraprofessionals are provided multiple opportunities to collaborate through weekly Professional Learning Communities (PLC), grade-level planning, and weekly data analysis of Common Formative Assessments (CFA). The staff used data results from various assessment sources to provide targeted interventions, including but not limited to STAR Reading and Math, Mastery Connect, Kindergarten Readiness Assessment (KRA), Fountas, and Pinnell Benchmark Assessment System (BAS).
The school used technology resources such as Microsoft Teams, online curriculum resources, SMART Boards, laptops, and desktop computers to support student cross-curricular learning and develop college and career-ready skills. All students in kindergarten through fifth grade have 1:1 access to laptops. Burton-Pack works closely with our parents, business partners, community members, and stakeholders to meet our students' academic, social, and emotional needs. We will continue to inspire our students' interests as well as host activities in which to engage students, such as Beta Club, Student Council, Girls GEMS Club, Gentlemen of Distinction Club, Running Club, Lego Club, STEMS club, Service Learning Projects, Fitness Bowl, Fireflies Readers Program, Breast Cancer Walk, and Special Olympics.
Burton-Pack Elementary School supports our students' academic achievement and social-emotional needs through the use of the Overcoming Obstacles curriculum, Buddy Benches throughout the building, and two sensory rooms. Each student also has an adult advocate in the building. We believe in achieving excellence together.
