Webber Elementary School is dedicated to developing students with world-class skills and the essential characteristics of the Profile of the Graduate. We focus on achieving high academic standards, fostering emotional connections to society, and encouraging students to understand their role within a larger community.
Our staff development activities are geared towards nurturing critical thinking in all students. Implementing our weekly Planning+ schedule allows teachers to participate in extended professional development. Emphasis is placed on accountable talk, essential questions, quick writes, formative assessments, and reflection. Teachers dissect academic standards, reflect on instruction, ensure standards-based teaching, analyze data, monitor progress, and design weekly assessments to measure mastery of skills required for state assessments. Weekly grade-level planning, Star testing, and quarterly district benchmark tests enhance student test-taking skills to prepare for SC READY.
We support academic achievement in reading across all subjects, guided by programs like Fountas and Pinnell Classroom Literacy, MyLexia, and Freckle, along with daily classroom interventions to close gaps in content mastery. Title I funds help provide academic assistance to at-risk students through two instructional assistants. Special activities, including extended school day programs, ensure continued academic growth and student achievement.
As an AVID Leadership School, Webber emphasizes college and career readiness. Students use SLANT to develop communication skills, highlighting body language and eye contact, and are encouraged to summarize and respond to teachers and peers. Digital devices are integrated into kindergarten through fifth-grade learning, enabling research projects, group presentations, and collaborative learning.
Webber fosters a culturally responsive and supportive environment by addressing traumatic triggers and implementing proactive strategies to maintain a positive learning environment. Each day starts with personal greetings to ensure students feel valued and parents appreciate the solid staff-student interactions. Our school-wide PBIS initiative includes monthly PBIS conclaves highlighting character focus and recognizing exemplary behavior. Faculty and staff are also acknowledged for their teamwork and attendance through PBIS Rewards, including treat bags, gift cards, and early leave passes. Special recognitions throughout the year show our appreciation for the staff's dedication to student success. Quarterly award ceremonies celebrate student academic achievements.
Parent outreach programs, supported by community partners, include Math Night, Literacy Night, and the Eagle Festival. Parents are involved in decision-making through monthly School Improvement Council (SIC) meetings and parent luncheons. They can also provide feedback via conferences with administrators, a suggestion box in the main office, and student agendas. Lunch Buddies and mentors from Sylvamo and the Webber Alumni Association inspire students by sharing their life experiences during biweekly visits.
Webber is committed to its mission of leading and learning by promoting critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity. Our initiatives ensure that all students develop the World-Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate.
