Report Card Narrative
William S. Sandel Elementary School takes pride in helping all students develop world class skills and life career characteristics for the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. Through the promotion of global perspectives, we acknowledge our varied student and community culture.
Students receive a strong foundation in reading, writing, math, science and social studies. They additionally receive specialized instruction in the fine arts to include visual and performing arts, music, library, and physical education.
Likewise, students are empowered through the AVID Initiative promoting life-long leadership and organizational skills as a means of increasing academic along with college and career readiness. Critical thinking coupled with creativity is encouraged through a wide range of strategies such as brainstorming, analyzing and researching key learning topics. Students are continually encouraged to work in collaborative learning groups as they make judgments and decisions, while effectively evaluating evidence and claims.
In keeping with our mission as a leader in transforming lives through education, we strive to empower all students to achieve their potential and dreams. Technology inclusion plays a prominent role in all that we do! Students are able to engage in learning opportunities to build 21st Century Skills utilizing a variety of multi-media and technology platforms.
Faculty and staff embrace the concept of continuous improvement and work toward incorporating instructional best practices. Therefore, professional development is the cornerstone to our success. As a result of ongoing data analysis, vertical articulation, Multi-Tiered Student Support (MTSS) and Professional Learning Communities (PLC’s), teachers are able to identify core areas of focus while developing strategies to support students throughout the school year. Doing so enable us to continually monitor student progress, while specifically targeting areas based upon both district and state assessment options.
We strive to work as a team to support our teaching and learning environment through exercising flexibility and eagerness in taking the appropriate steps to accomplish common goals. Staff, students and parents work together at William S. Sandel Elementary School to create lasting partnerships for learning. Fostering a shared approach to collaboration and responsibility, parents and community members are encouraged to volunteer in the classroom as well as participate in our Parent/Teacher Organization and School Improvement Council.
Both organizations offer a variety of learning opportunities throughout the school year and create a long-lasting, home-to-school connection through collective contribution. As a result of such collaborative endeavors, we look forward to continual improvement for our school.
