Rosewood students are exposed to world-class skills such as creativity and innovation through differentiated curriculum and instruction, language instruction in Spanish, and the infusion of visual arts, music, technology, and character education throughout the curriculum. Students in grades 3 – 5 may participate in gifted and talented programs. Students in need of additional academic assistance may participate in our afterschool program. Critical thinking and problem-solving are promoted at all grade levels through authentic and engaging learning experiences. Active learning in science occurs through inquiry-based instruction. Learning is enhanced through technology use, including classroom computers, laptops for all students in grades 3 -5, computer labs, iPads, and our video conferencing unit. Extracurricular activities include chorus, strings, German club, Fitness Team, and Run Hard.
Rosewood Elementary School will prepare every student to be a successful, contributing citizen in a global society by providing an effective and high-quality education. Rosewood Elementary is a certified Arts in Basic Curriculum (ABC) School. The South Carolina Arts Commission funds ABC. We continue to utilize this grant to provide teacher development in integrating the arts into our curriculum to foster creativity and engagement. Another benefit is the continued Art’s integrated speakers and field studies that gave Rosewood students real-world experiences from ABC.
Students are exposed to various life and career characteristics through daily learning experiences, community service opportunities, and school-wide behavioral expectations. Our guidance program fosters the development of positive character traits and peaceful conflict-resolution skills. Positive character traits are recognized through activities such as “Eagle of the Month,” Eagle bucks, and safety patrol participation.
Rosewood students annually display high academic performances. Continuing to analyze data and incorporate Universal screeners allows teachers and administration to focus on instructional growth. We utilize common formative assessments and analyze them continuously to match instruction to learners' needs, which will foster growth. We continue to analyze our early intervention needs with the assistance of MTSS and our reading interventionist. We believe that early intervention is the key to long-term reading success.
Our programs support skill-building Internet-based software by incorporating the latest technologies and one-to-one laptops for students in grades PK-5. All classrooms have SMART Boards, computers, and document cameras to enhance learning. All teachers and students in grades K – 5 were issued individual laptops. The ability for students to log in to their programs at home has also allowed for more differentiated approaches for intervention and extended personalized learning.
Our school is fortunate to have many parents, local businesses, neighborhood associations, and community members who volunteer and participate in our school community through activities such as International Walk to School Day, Science Night, Spring Picnic, Rosewood Readers, and Math Mentors. Our parents' engagement and community support continue to enhance the school climate, promote student achievement, and contribute to our success.
