Edward E. Taylor Elementary is nestled in the heart of Columbia, South Carolina. Staff members at E.E. Taylor remained committed to helping all students develop the World-Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate through the implementation of research-based best practices and ensuring that our students' social-emotional needs were met to foster a supportive and thriving learning community.
E.E. Taylor received Title I Federal Funding to assist with improving teaching and learning and meeting rigorous academic standards. Average enrollment continued to decline, with approximately 215 learners from pre-k through fifth grade. Self-contained, resource, and Advanced Academic Program classes accommodated our student learners.
Despite the challenges posed by staff turnover, prioritizing the fulfillment of our student's academic needs remained steadfast within our educational community. We focused our professional development priorities on the Balance Literacy Framework, Visible Learning, and utilizing student data to inform our instructional practices. Teachers worked collaboratively to develop instructional plans weekly.
As the academic year unfolded, E.E. Taylor Elementary celebrated marginal gains in various facets of student learning. Incremental improvements in diagnostic assessments and literacy and numeracy rates signaled a step in the right direction. Each small achievement served as a building block towards their educational journey.
The ongoing community support was a testament to our “Village” coming together in the spirit of assisting our students in reaching their fullest potential. Parents, guardians, grandparents, sororities/fraternities, state workers, and the neighboring church community provided resources, time, and moral support for students and staff alike.
At the conclusion of our school year, stakeholders paused to reflect on their journey. While there were challenges, we remain devoted to our quest to be a leader in transforming lives through education and empowering all students to achieve their fullest potential and dreams.
