Wood Elementary School 2023-2024
Wood Elementary School is dedicated to helping all students achieve the standards set by the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. Our school community fosters collaboration and positive relationships, creating meaningful opportunities to cultivate productive citizens. Through targeted instruction at every grade level, we ensure students develop critical thinking, collaboration, and effective communication skills necessary for success in a rapidly changing world. These combined efforts result in Wood Elementary School LEADING and LEARNING every day!
By consistently setting high expectations, we provide challenging, tailored learning experiences for all students from 4K through 5th grade, addressing their academic, social, and emotional development. Our Professional Learning Community culture permeates instructional planning and data-driven decision-making, as teacher teams implement a curriculum aligned with state standards. Through student-centered discussions, students receive assistance or enrichment via our Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS). We also focus on maintaining attendance and reducing chronic absenteeism through regular meetings of our Attendance Intervention Team. School administrators, counselors, social workers, and administrative staff collaborate with parents to ensure students are present and on time each day.
Our after-school programs have been highly successful, with initiatives like Run Hard, Fine Arts Night, and Literacy Night to name a few. Our BETA Club worked hard raising over $1,000 to support community initiatives as well as nonprofit and charitable organizations. Programs such as School Time Bible Study and the Baillie Players Theater Performance enrich students' experiences. Our student support programs, including Lex 2.5 after-school tutoring, Communities in Schools partnership, and the Midlands Reading Consortium, provide vital academic assistance. We celebrate student achievements through positive recognition programs like our Book Vending Machine, Outstanding OWLS (Owning actions, Working together, Leading by example, Showing respect), Tags of Honor, and monthly "Hoot" Fests, fostering a culture of encouragement and excellence.
The faculty, staff, and administration at Wood Elementary are committed to providing opportunities for our students to develop the skills needed to become productive citizens with bright futures, ready for both college and career. Our daily dedication to LEADING and LEARNING ensures continued progress and success for every student.
