Meadow Glen Elementary School is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by creating a culture of critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity. Meadow Glen Elementary is a school where students are Empowered to Design the Future! We enter each day with the motto Believe. Work. Grow...We are CREW as our guide. We are a community of learners who believe in the concept of 'CREW.' We believe that we must ALL work together to grow as a family of learners and individuals. MGES focuses on practices that promote mastery of knowledge and skills, high levels of character and leadership, and the production of high-quality work in every classroom.
Our Habits of Success are Respect, Responsibility, Perseverance, and Craftsmanship.
“‘Just because something works doesn’t mean it can't be improved.’ Shuri, Black Panther, Marvel Studios
This is the principle the school embodies. And I can see it year after year – in academic instruction, extracurricular activities, events, communication, organization, etc. The teachers, staff, and administrators are continuously working on continual improvement and innovation. I can see my third grader learn how to grow and adapt to change – a particularly important skill for young minds.” — School Improvement Chairperson
Our Meadow Glen Elementary goals for the 2023–24 school year were:
-
Increase the percentage of students progressing on time with the requisite skills for success at their current grade levels.
-
Improve the conditions, systems, and structures to ensure safety and facilitate healthy behavioral growth and mental wellness of students and staff.
Through targeted professional learning, specific attention to individual student needs and a focus on cultivating individual resiliency, the Meadow Glen community of learners grew as mathematicians, with improved reading, speaking, and writing skills, and became more personally and socially responsible.
The 2023–24 school year has taught us that to best support each other, students, and families, we must look beyond the classroom. Building connections is an important step in gaining trust and honoring the needs of all students. One of the strongest ways for students to invest in their learning is for them to see value beyond the classroom. At MGES, a few ways students invest in learning and community are:
-
Award-winning 4th and 5th Grade Robotics Teams
-
Gardening Club
-
Student-Led Conferences Kindergarten through Fifth Grade
-
Grade-level expedition work
-
Green Team recycling program
-
Linking Lexington, top donor recognition
-
Production of Aladdin, jr.
-
Chinese New Year celebration led by immersion students and staff
-
School Improvement Council-sponsored International Night and Parade of Nations
“By starting the International Night tradition, we have collectively made clear our intention to deepen our understanding of each other and begun a tradition that will create stronger ties between the families of our diverse school community.” — MGES teacher
As we work together to guide all students to learn, grow, and excel, our Explorers exemplify the characteristics of young learners and leaders.
