With unwavering dedication, the Lower Lee Elementary School faculty and staff tirelessly work to help all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of a South Carolina Graduate. Our school community, serving 151 prekindergarten through fifth-grade students, is a shining example of our unwavering commitment to excellence. Together, we ensure our students are educated in a safe, nurturing, caring, and academically challenging environment.
Students at our school are encouraged to think critically, collaborate with others, communicate effectively, and be responsible for their learning. We follow the South Carolina College and Career Readiness Standards at every level to plan and implement lessons to improve instruction. Quality lessons are delivered using the gradual release model in large and small groups, and individualized instruction is provided by highly qualified and trained faculty and staff using various instructional strategies.
Promoting literacy is essential. English Language Arts classrooms utilize a balanced literacy model, which combines whole language and skill development to enhance students' literacy comprehension. This balanced approach addresses students' diverse needs and aligns with their cognitive development across various subjects, such as reading, writing, math, science, and social studies. Literacy skills are integrated throughout the curriculum, fostering critical thinking, communication, and collaboration skills. We employ strategies such as guided reading, guided math, and personalized instruction to cater to individual needs. Additionally, to enhance literacy and phonemic awareness for young learners, kindergarten through third-grade teachers have undergone professional training in LETRS, equipping them with extensive knowledge of literacy instruction.
Our commitment to continuous improvement is reflected in the focus of our data team meetings and professional learning communities on student growth, achievement, teaching, and learning. We offer additional support to students through various interventions and small group pull-outs scheduled during the instructional day. Moreover, acceleration opportunities are made available to ensure all students have access. We aim to empower students to realize their full potential by creating a diverse, student-centered environment that prepares them to be lifelong learners and active, productive community members. This is achieved by implementing the South Carolina College and Career Readiness Standards and district guides.
Lower Lee Elementary School aims to provide a high-quality learning environment where students can lead, learn, and grow. Thus, we must understand how each child learns best. Our school community fosters an intellectually stimulating environment where all students strive for and attain excellence, which aligns with our motto, "Learners Leading through Excellence."
