It’s hard to believe that we are at the close of another school year! We would like to thank you for your cooperation, trust, and commitment to the mission of North Elementary. It is our shared belief in the importance of creating responsible, hard-working, life-long learners that helped us sustain success once again this year. We respect the sacrifices each family has made to send their child to school each day as we continued to put them first in everything we do. This was a very busy year and you, as partners in education, played a great role in making it a success!
All grade levels enjoyed curriculum based field trips that enhanced learning, but also provided the opportunity for students to bond with classmates and make lasting memories. Through nature and exploration, the fifth graders’ annual Camp Thunderbird trip proved to be a bonding experience that the students continue to talk about for years to come. Students in fifth grade also explored Wonder Works and Myrtle Beach State Park where they enjoyed sinking their feet in the sand. Our fourth graders traveled to Charleston to visit Boone Hall and Fort Sumter to explore more about our state’s history. The Carolina Raptor Center was a highlight of the year for our third graders as they learned about over 30 species of raptors as they hiked the nature trail. Second graders enjoyed their time with the animals at the Riverbanks Zoo and their farm visit to Black’s Peaches. First graders explored the Anne Springs Greenway and enjoyed the STEAM-based environment at the Discovery Place. Our 4-K and kindergarten students enjoyed their trips to local farms and museums while partnering with our exceptional classes and local business partners at Chick-Fil-A, the fire department, police department and post office.
While summer brings a momentary end to school, there is much work to be done. Over the past nine months, your child has worked very hard to obtain new learning. What they learned was the result of a collaborative effort between school and home, and it is most important that they extend that learning and reading practice over the summer. Now that the school year has drawn to a close, I hope your child realizes that their learning will continue; for all of life is a school, and we learn by everything we do. Help us prevent the Summer Slide by making sure your child reads at home this summer.
We are fortunate that our entire North family embraces our lifelong learning motto and that parents, students and teachers work hard to ensure every child is receiving the best education we can provide. As always, we thank you for all your continued support of North!
Yours in partnership,
Keishea M. Mickles
