Waterway Elementary School is helping all students develop the world class skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing a safe, caring, and academically challenging learning environment. We provide such an environment through the implementation of our school vision: a medley of cultures and needs in a community of change and progress, to ensure each student a solid foundation that will prepare him or her for further learning through innovative and developmentally appropriate programs.
The 2023-2024 school year was noteworthy at Waterway Elementary. Celebrations were held to recognize the students’ achievements in academics, attendance, and character development.
Our faculty participated in professional development focusing on instructional strategies to improve student achievement in reading and mathematics. A computer assessment program was utilized to help improve instruction and measure student progress. Teachers collaborated as grade levels and across grade levels to plan standards-based instruction. Many teachers participated in graduate coursework to advance their degrees. Christina Prince was selected as Teacher of the Year for our school. Rod Purcha was selected as our Support Staff Member of the Year.
The hard work and dedication of our parents and volunteers, as well as our outstanding community support, enhanced the mission of the school.
During the 2024-2025 school year we will work with our parents, community members and the School Improvement Council to help children excel in all areas. We welcome Sarah Dunn as the new principal of Waterway Elementary School.
