Narrative 2023-2024
Hampton Elementary School remains committed to ensuring that our students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. All stakeholders agree our goals include keeping children safe, providing a quality educational program and assuring the needs of all learners are met. As educators, our goal is to be student-focused in our planning, developing, and assessing of instruction in order to reach our vision of each child making at least a year’s growth and stretch growth goals in math and reading based on iReady test results. We embed other content areas, such as art, music, and technology into the CORE subjects to provide skills for the student that will enable them to be prepared for future career paths.
During weekly PLC meetings our teachers collaborate and use research-based, effective strategies in the classroom. Some of these include: Authentic Reading and Writing experiences, small group instruction, Fountas & Pinnell Phonics study, Progress Monitoring, Calendar Math, science kits, STEM, Reading Intervention, Reading Recovery, DreamBox, and iReady data. All teachers have been trained in using and analyzing Fountas & Pinnell Reading Portfolio and Benchmark Assessments and MTSS procedures.
Hampton Elementary is proud that most of the teachers and staff have been trained to use Conscious Discipline. It is a comprehensive classroom management program and a social-emotional curriculum. It is based on current brain research, child development information, and developmentally appropriate practices. The Conscious Discipline course is an adult first model that teachers have embraced. At Hampton Elementary, we also have various programs outside the academic world to focus on the development of the whole child. Community projects are an essential part of helping us teach our students about life. We participated in Relay for Life, Adopt-A-Highway Program, Souper Bowl Soup/Can Food Drive, Law Enforcement Appreciation, Wellness Program, partnered with the local Rotary Club and Clemson Extension Office to create an outdoor classroom on campus, and Senior Citizen Christmas Party/Gifts. In addition to these events, Hampton Elementary School has expanded extracurricular activities and clubs such as Drama, Girls’ and Boys’ Clubs, Chorus, Inter-district elementary basketball, journalism/yearbook, volleyball, and band.
At Hampton Elementary, we believe the school, family, and community must share the educational responsibility of our young. Through our Hornet agenda books, we communicate daily with our parents. Also, we utilize the district social media, newsletter, school social media and ParentSquare to inform parents of emergencies and events. The teachers send newsletters, ParentSquare is utilized, and the school website keeps up-to-date information for parents and the community. We appreciate all of the support we receive in helping with the development of our future South Carolina graduates and world leaders!
