Carver Elementary Magnet School is helping all students develop the world class skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing a safe, caring, and academically challenging learning environment. We provide such an environment through the implementation of our school vision: Carver students will utilize problem solving, collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking skills to make a positive and significant impact on their future and the future of our ever changing world. Our mission is to provide our students with engaging, challenging, and authentic real-world learning experiences.
We demonstrate our vision and mission by challenging our students with best practices to reach their full potential and by the continuous professional development of our teachers.
Our commitment to education has allowed Carver to receive several recognitions. Carver Elementary Magnet School is a Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence Lighthouse School. We have also been named as a finalist for the 2022-2023 Palmetto’s Finest Award. In addition, we received our Cognia STEM Recertification.
Our teachers at Carver utilize an integrated, standard-based curriculum that emphasizes technology and STEAM. During the 2016-2017 school year, Carver attained the AdvancED STEM accreditation. During the 2017-2018 school year, our school became a STEM magnet school and has accepted students from across our district. We continue to accept students throughout the district through a lottery process. Technology resources used to engage students include one to one chrome books in Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade, educational web-based programs, SMART STEM Lab activities, Robotics Lab projects, SMART Boards, Flash Masters, and Streamline Videos. Carver has a balanced language arts program providing a reading recovery lab, Reading Renaissance, Orton Gillingham, Daily Oral Language, and Lexia, an individualized computer-based program. In math, a variety of hands-on programs such as Big Ideas, Dreambox, and Everyday Counts Calendar Math are used. In Science, we are focused on STEAM with the Project Lead the Way program and teacher made Project Based Learning units. Teachers also utilize a new science series, McGraw-Hill, which has interactive inquiry-based science lessons. Carver also worked with Creative Learning to create the very first SMART STEM lab in the state, which is used to develop engineering and math skills. We are proud of our strong history of academic success.
At Carver Elementary, we also have various programs outside the academic world to focus on the development of the whole child. Students participate in the SMART STEM Lab, Robotics Lab, art, music, and physical education weekly. Our parents and community are also significantly involved. Carver has an active PTO and School Improvement Council. Volunteers can be found serving as tutors, mentors, and working with our Positive Behavior System (Bear Bucks), just to name a few areas. Carver has numerous contributors and community, business, and college partners, including our Faith Based Volunteers. A variety of school clubs are available throughout the year. These include the STEAM-Tastic Club, Art Club, Sports of All Sorts Club, Chorus, Bear Cub Club, Builders Brigade Club, Bear Book Club, and the Good News Club. In addition, we are able to offer after school academic support through our BEAR Time Enrichment tutorial sessions. We are also proud to have an Extended Day after school care program which also provides assistance with homework to students. Leadership opportunities offered include Safety Patrols and the Morning Show. Character programs such as Core Essentials, and Character Counts are used. Carver also has strong student recognition programs, including Terrific Kids, Princi-pals, Celebrity Student, Honor Roll, Perfect Attendance, Bus of the Month and Reading Renaissance awards. Students are also involved in many service projects throughout the year. These include various Food Drives, American Heart Association, and toy/clothing donations for the holidays. Finally, we continue to offer food packs, with the assistance of an organization called Help 4 Kids, to students who may need something extra to eat over the weekend.
At Carver Elementary, we believe that it is important for the school, family, and community to share in the responsibility of educating our students. Thank you for all of your support with helping to make Carver “A Great Place To Learn”.
