Our 2023-2024 school year theme is “T.W.I.S.T” (Together Wildcats Inspire Students and Staff) which reflects how we continue to work together as a community of educators and students to inspire each other's growth. Our focus continues as in the past years, to be purposefully driven about student learning and social-emotional needs. Our school community realizes that we play an essential part in the educational environment in a positive, caring, and productive way for the children we serve. We keep incorporating fun while educating the whole child provides opportunities for innovative ideas to ensure students learn and enjoy their learning experience through engaging, creative, and rigorous practices.
The mission at Fairfield Magnet School for Math and Science is to prepare our students to meet the academic, emotional, and social challenges of the future by providing them with a caring, safe, and stimulating learning environment to ensure they are well-rounded and successful. Our continuous focus is on assisting our students in developing the world-class skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing an education that allows them to be critical thinkers, communicators, collaborators, and creative through rigorous, engaging, and innovative activities. Our ultimate goal is to contribute to our students' high school and college graduation and aid in them becoming productive citizens.
The STEAM focus at Fairfield Magnet School for Math and Science provides a curriculum for all students to be creative, critical thinkers, work as a team, collaborate on problem-solving, and develop interpersonal skills. Many projects are web-based to provide learning opportunities to solve complex problems. Innovative programs, such as Arts Extravaganza, March Math Madness Day, blending learning with the art classes, and Math Bowl for analytical problem-solving are incorporated into the STEAM focus.
Our school was awarded the 2022 National Blue School and the 2022 National ESEA Distinguished School in recognition of our student's success on the state test for closing the achievement gap. The art students participated in community and state art competitions, proving very successful. Some of their accomplishments are the 2023 NAGYN National drawing contest, the 2023 National Youth Advocacy and Resilience 1st place winner, and the 2023 Attorney General’s 20th Annual Project Safe Neighborhood art contest winners. Our students received academic recognition as the 2023 National Beta Club School of Distinction for a student achievement award.
Technology enhancement provided by our district allows access to Chromebooks that enable all students to work individually, with a partner, and in cooperative groups while advocating for their learning. At the same time, the teacher serves as the facilitator.
Assessments created through online programs aligned with the South Carolina College and Career Ready Standards assisted teachers in analyzing the results so daily intervention and enhancement could be planned for students.
The Parent Liaison and SIC met their goal of improving parent involvement by providing a variety of resources and various ways for them to join the meeting.
We look forward to the 2023-2024 school year as we continue to open minds through academics and the arts to create success in our students. The FMSMS family will continue to instill in our students that they are brilliant and will succeed at anything they encounter.
