Geiger Elementary School is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing a safe, supportive, nurturing, and academically challenging learning environment. Additionally, we challenge all students with rigorous and authentic learning experiences so that they reach their maximum potential. We believe that everyone is an important piece of the puzzle: students, parents, faculty, and staff members. This team effort is a testament to our success and collectively we celebrate our academic achievements and student growth.
Students' preparedness remains a top priority, as the teachers and staff work persistently to design lessons that use the gradual release model, integrate subject matter, and differentiate through the utilization of data; ensuring that we meet the needs of individual students. Also, teachers focus on building relationships with students and parents to improve instructional practices as well as address the student’s learning styles. As a school, we utilize the conveniences of modern-day technology, such as interactive whiteboards, IPADS, 1:1 Chromebooks, document cameras, Google Applications, etc to maximize our students’ learning.
Students are assessed using a variety of formal and informal prescriptive and achievement measures including state assessments (SC Ready), Star Reading, Star Math, Star CBM, Kindergarten Readiness Assessment (KRA), GOLD, Dial 4, Fountas and Pinnell, and MasteryConnect Benchmarks. Students are provided differentiated support and encouragement to excel regardless of ability levels. Geiger strives to meet the diverse academic and social needs of students through intervention, acceleration, and remediation. During the 2023-2024 school year, all interventions were implemented for reading in grades Kingarten-6th by teachers and a reading interventionist using Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI).
In addition to providing a rigorous academic curriculum, Geiger continues to focus on the development of the whole child, through the implementation of mentoring and educational programs such as Geiger Gems, Gents and Pearls, Club Days, and multiple award programs. In addressing the whole child, club day is hosted once a month. Students are able to select clubs based on their interests and are given an opportunity to interact with students from other grade levels and other staff members throughout the school.
At Geiger, students also benefit from our continued implementation of PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions Support), which strongly supports the development of positive social skills and the reduction of behavior problems. Teachers believe in teaching the whole child using life skills, community-building activities, and a focus on SEL.
Our students participated in numerous fun and creative activities throughout the year to address the total child such as Family Math Bingo Night, Book Character Day, Fall Fest Math and Reading, Duke Energy STEAM Night with Spring Fest, and the End of the Year Awards Block Party.
It is our hope that the collective efforts of parents, teachers, and the community will enable students to reach their highest potential and display the “Tiger Pride” of Geiger Elementary in all areas of their lives.
