Located in the heart of the city, Sanders-Clyde Elementary is a Title I school serving a minority student population, with the majority being African American and Hispanic. With over 95% poverty rating, our community faces significant socioeconomic challenges. The challenges are numerous and complex. High rates of poverty, traumatic occurrences, limited access to resources, and community safety concerns all impact our students intellectually, emotionally, and socially. Additionally, a significant number of our students come from single-parent households or are responsible for caring for younger siblings. Despite these obstacles, our school community remains resilient and determined to succeed. Sanders-Clyde has demonstrated significant academic progress. Over the past year, our scholars have shown remarkable growth in reading and mathematics. Our goal remains to provide the tools and support systems needed to develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate for all of our scholars. With an emphasis on the SC College and Career Readiness Standards, we place a huge part of our efforts into literacy to ensure all scholars are reading on grade level by the end of third grade. To support our efforts in Literacy, K-3 teachers participate in professional development such as LETRS to better understand the science of teaching reading.
High teacher engagement is the key. Our dedicated team of teachers goes above and beyond to create engaging and supportive learning environments to meet the diverse needs of our scholars. Through intentional staffing, planning, and professional development, teachers reinforce SC standards and content through an arts-integrated approach. The goal is to highly engage our scholars in ways that tap into their natural talents to reinforce academic and social-emotional strategies.
We firmly believe in the power of data to drive instruction and improve student outcomes. Regular assessments and data analysis sessions during our DDI ( Data-Driven Instruction) meetings enable our teachers to identify areas of need and tailor their teaching strategies accordingly. They employ innovative teaching methods to differentiate instruction. This approach ensures that every scholar receives the support they need to succeed
At Sanders-Clyde Elementary, we maintain high expectations for all scholars and staff. We believe that every scholar has the potential to excel, and we strive to instill a growth mindset in our entire school community. Our administration and teachers set ambitious academic goals and work tirelessly to help scholars achieve them.
In conclusion, our success is a testament to the collaborative efforts of our entire school community. Teachers, administrators, support staff, parents, and community partners work together to create a nurturing and academically rigorous environment. Support services allow us to address the needs of staff and students. I win, you win, we ALL win at ‘The Clyde’!
