North Charleston Elementary (NCES) is helping all students develop the South Carolina Graduate's world-class skills by providing an academically challenging, safe, and caring learning environment. The NCES teachers work tirelessly to learn and implement teaching strategies that enhance their students' learning and potential for growth. Specifically, we focus on ensuring students receive instruction through high-quality curriculums and an instructional framework. Through effective implementation of the ELA curriculum in conjunction with EL Skills Block and All Block, we will continue to close gaps, ensuring our 5th students will read on grade level by 2027.
Additionally, NCES has implemented STEM programs through Project Lead The Way and the Liberty Hill STEM Initiative to increase our students' critical thinking and collaboration levels. This initiative gives students projects to complete while focusing on Science, Math, and Engineering skills.
To improve collaboration opportunities, North Charleston Elementary has created various extracurricular activities for students to develop in multiple areas. Programs such as robotics, drone club, STEM club, soccer, basketball, dance, and cheerleading help our students understand the importance of staying active, collaborating, and setting goals.
The students of North Charleston Elementary come from various backgrounds and cultures. Therefore, we work hard at NCES to recognize our unique differences through celebrations that educate our students and staff. A few ways we did this in the 23/24 school year included our Black History and Hispanic Heritage programming, Autism Acceptance Month, and Women's Month. We also worked on our Characters of Habit which include being kind and open-minded. We look forward to growing in these areas in the 24/25 school year as we continue to build on our RCA House system as well.
By recognizing our strengths, addressing our opportunities, and equipping our students with the tools to succeed in life, NCES students are transitioning from great students to great citizens of our community. We are incredibly excited and look forward to building on our students' and teachers' progress during the 2024-2025 school year.
