At Harbor View Elementary School we believe that all students have the potential to possess the essential skills and attributes of a high school graduate in South Carolina. We are committed to providing our students with the skills they need, regardless of the path they choose to pursue.
Students are expected to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to successfully graduate from a South Carolina school and become well-rounded, professional individuals in society. At Harbor View Elementary, we focus on teaching foundational skills that support the key competencies and characteristics outlined in the profile of a South Carolina graduate. Our students emphasize these three aspects at a very young age. Social-emotional learning is particularly important as children develop and learn effective communication. We also teach world-class skills such as critical thinking, collaboration, problem-solving, and communication to help students become successful twenty-first-century learners.
Harbor View Elementary has implemented various programs to support the South Carolina Profile of a Graduate. As elementary educators, we understand the importance of foundational skills. By diving into the key indicators of the SC profile, we see many of these skills being implemented daily through our reading and Math curriculum, our social-emotional programs, and our school-based initiatives to support our students.
This upcoming year, Harbor View Elementary will introduce clubs for our 3rd-5th grader students, with the goal of expanding these clubs to the entire school community in the future. Inspired by the opportunity, we are excited to implement this new program. Our school will establish a STEAM program next year. We are thrilled to introduce this new opportunity for our students to foster a love for science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics.
