Whitesville Elementary School (WES) is committed to fostering an environment that’s best for learning, teaching, working, and building life-long memories. Our school is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina graduate by demonstrating high academic achievement, creating a school culture that supports and challenges students, and providing the foundational skills for life long success.
Our core beliefs include believing that everyone deserves to feel safe, valued, and appreciated; all children deserve a high quality education; and the belief in collaboration and in making connections. With a well-designed curriculum and various community experiences, students are able to develop collaboration and teamwork, creativity and imagination, and critical thinking and problem solving in order to be successful in life.
At WES, our goal is to create a rigorous and relevant instructional environment. We strengthen our collaboration and teacher collective efficacy through Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) while supporting our students through weekly Multi-Tiered Systems of Support meetings (MTSS). WES students receive experiences and support that will not only help them reach their academic goals, but will support them in becoming good citizens.
We have many programs and initiatives in place to assist students with their academic needs and their social and emotional growth. Initiatives, such as Student Ambassadors, allow our students to take leadership roles within the school. Our students are able to participate in a number of clubs and extracurricular activities such as Lego Club, Chess Club, Zentangle Club, Pickleball Club, First Tee, and more as an opportunity to excel beyond the classroom. In addition, our teachers use a multitude of methods to create personalized learning opportunities for each of our students.
Technology is also an integral part of students’ academic career at WES. Our students have one-to-one access to technology from kindergarten through 5th grade. Our teachers use a number of programs to support student learning such as iReady, Lexia, Reflex Math, BrainPop, Schoology, and more to enrich and differentiate curriculum.
We are proud that students at WES are acquiring the types of academic skills and character traits that will prepare them to face challenges and achieve excellence as leaders of their learning and life. We celebrate the mantra: “You can’t be aWESome without WES!”
