We provide such an environment through the implementation of our school vision: "Lead Together, Learn Together, Succeed Together". Mossy Creek believes that all students can be leaders and learners.
Our highly qualified teachers work with students on a daily basis to help increase their critical thinking skills and creativity. Our staff learns from one another in our system of learning communitites. Mossy Creek students are taught to make judgements and decisions on a daily basis by providing hands on inquiry experiences. Teachers teach students how to effectively analyze, evaluate, synthesize, and interpret information, and reflect critically on learning experiences and process. Teams of Professional Learning Communities meet weekly to discuss data and determine various strategies that can be implemented to help increase the rigor in the classroom in order for all our students to be able to think critically in real world situations. Students are encouraged to use a variety of techniques while demonstrating originality and inventiveness in their school work. We want students to view failure as an opportunity to learn and understand that creativity and innovation comes with trial and error.
Mossy Creek offers a wide variety of programs in order for students to reach their highest potential. Students participate in the WCRK daily news program, safety patrol, running club, Good News Club, and Battle of the Books. These programs, among many others offered, give students the opportunity to articulate thoughts and ideas for a variety of purposes including informing, motivating, and persuading. Teachers teach students the effective use of oral, written, and nonverbal communication skills in a variety of forms and contexts. Student in K-5 are one to one, and we integrate technology into our daily routines. Students are taught the skills of good listening to gain knowledge and decipher meaning. They are taught the value of respecting their peers and the various opinions of others. Mossy Creek communicates regularly with parents and community members and they are encouraged to create partnerships with our stakehodlers to meet the needs of all our students. PTO and SIC support our school by planning and managing events like the Fall Family Reading Night, , Daddy/Daughter and Mother/Son Activities, School Beautification Day, Math and Science day, multiple fundraisers, Teacher Appreciation Week, and luncheons for teachers and staff. PTO and SIC also assist our school financially by searching for grant monies and funding various instructional purchases.
At Mossy Creek, we value the ability to collaborate with others and strive to demonstrate the capacity to work effectively and respectfully with diverse teams. Our highly qualified teachers collaborate by participating in numerous staff development opportunities, including Leader in Me and Instructional Framework professional development, data teams, Professional Learning Communities, and grade level analytical meetings. During this time, teachers exercise flexibility and the willingness to be helpful in making necessary compromises to accomplish a common goal. Teams also assume shared responsibility for collaborative work, and value the individual contributions made by each team member. Teachers ensure students are given multiple opportunities to collaborate with peers. Group work and projects, pair share, turn and talk, and group presentations are a few examples of collaborative opportunities given to students during class time. Students are also involved in clubs where they can explore their interests and collaborate with peers. Our students also practice serving their community through programs like Toys for Tots, Jump Rope for Heart, Kindness 4 Creatures, and the Veterans Day Program.
