Our school helps all students develop World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate in a diverse, rural school with a community school atmosphere that offers students personal, one-on-one interaction with teachers, staff, coaches, and classmates while providing many learning opportunities found in larger schools.
Cowpens Middle School helps students develop skills by the continued implementation of one-to-one mobile technology. Students use their personal devices to research, create, communicate, and collaborate on class assignments. Students participate in career exploration through elective courses and career sessions with the guidance department. Our annual career fair reveals many opportunities for students to gain insight to options after high school and college.
Through school-wide initiatives that focus on cognitive, social, emotional and civil growth, CMS fostered an environment that promotes learning and betterment of self. One such initiative for 2018-2019 was the continuation of a school-wide Peer-Mentoring program to assist students with Special Olympics. A smaller group of mentors visited the elementary school and read to students each day. CMS students participated in a supply drive collecting pet items for the Spartanburg Humane Society. Students participated in Socktober, a sock drive for the homeless. CMS continued to offer math and reading enrichment classes at each grade level. A smaller teacher-student ratio allowed teachers the opportunity to continue the individualized instruction that begins in the regular classroom, assisting students in overcoming skill gaps. Honors students participated in an SAT prep elective to increase vocabulary, test taking skills, and critical thinking strategies. Our Beta Club inducted 24 new members and completed over 300 community service hours throughout the year.
It is with great RAIDER PRIDE that we share these accomplishments with you.
