Hardeeville-Ridgeland Middle School continues to help all students develop world class skills and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by helping each child to reach his or her maximum potential. Our vision is to create a safe environment which will foster leadership and creativity in students while empowering them with tools for the global marketplace. We take pride in our successes and each child is challenged daily through engaging curriculum, implementation of best practices and instruction provided by a committed staff. Our school-wide motto was "Encourage. Empower. Elevate."
Hardeeville-Ridgeland Middle School students are challenged daily in the four academic classes, which are based on rigorous standards that promote world-class knowledge. Students may earn high school credits by demonstrating mastery in Algebra I, English I, Spanish, Digital Literacy, and IBA. Through our school district's digital initiative, we are a one-to-one school. Students are provided devices to promote deeper learning in the disciplines, personalize learning, and better meet each student's academic needs. Using Measures of Academic Progress (MAP), we have evidence of our success with 51% of our students meeting their projected growth goal in mathematics and 57% in reading.
Our teachers work in their professional learning communities on a daily basis reviewing data in order to make informed decisions about teaching and learning. Also, staff receive training with regards to strategies that will help all students succeed. This year, teachers have been trained in: PBIS, MAP NWEA reading and math, writing across the curriculum, Time to Teach, and technology. In addition, teachers and support staff members have been afforded multiple opportunities to attend conferences through the state of South Carolina.
On a monthly basis, students were recognized as Students of the Week and on a monthly basis our students participated in the JCSD Student of the Month Program where two students were recognized by a local car dealership. In similar fashion, each month a faculty and staff member was recognized as Faculty and Staff Members of the Month and recognized by our Superintendent and a local bank. Our fine arts department excelled at the regional level and received numerous, individual and group awards. Selected eighth grade students performed with the Ridgeland-Hardeeville High School Marching Band. Additionally, our Girl's Basketball team had an awesome season and ended the year as the I-95 Champions. A group of middle school boys and participated in a mentoring program sponsored by staff in our building. This program addressed participants’ interests and relevant issues facing middle school aged children. The guidance department sponsored several events throughout the school year including a career fair, talent show, and awards programs. Through such activities as these, students are allowed to develop world-class skills such as creativity, critical thinking, collaboration and communication.
