Dear Parents/Guardians and Stakeholders,
Conway Middle School is a historically rich and pleasing facility nestled amid century-old oak trees in the heart of downtown Conway. We take great pride in serving as your community-center for learning. The faculty and staff of Conway Middle serve 650 students in grades 6-8 with a deep tradition of pride and service. Our school provides opportunity for students while helping them develop the world class skills needed for future success, and while fostering the life and career characteristics found in the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. We do this in part by holding ourselves accountable to our motto that “Every Student Matters, Every Moment Counts” in academics, athletics, and performing/visual arts.
Conway Middle School offers a strong academic program that provides students the opportunity to earn high school credit in the following courses: Algebra I, Geometry, English I, and Computer Science. Our staff development plan focuses on nurturing academic programs that increase student engagement, collaboration, and ownership of learning. We implement Kagan structures to help students learn and apply the interpersonal skills needed in a 21st century classroom heavily reliant upon student-collaboration. Students take advantage of the Horry County Schools 1:1 Personalized Digital Learning Initiative with daily digital content in a blended learning classroom that integrates educational technology with small group instruction. Our highly qualified teachers and students experience success with educational technology tools including, but not limited to: Achieve 3000, No Red Ink, Aleks, Google Classroom, Achievement Series Assessment Program, USA Test Prep, Gizmo, and Discovery Education. This provides our students more control over their time, space, and learning path and pace while enhancing their understanding of core academic content.
Additionally, Conway Middle offers various Fine Arts programs that inspire our students to explore their passions, develop and enhance their strengths and skills, and share their talents with the community in which they live. These successful programs, which include band, orchestra, chorus, and visual arts, and recent STEM program help our students to learn discipline, increase self-confidence, think creatively, and work collaboratively, and all of which serve to prepare them for productive futures in which they are contributing members of society. Our students excel in these programs at the district level through active participation in All-County Band and All-County Chorus.
At CMS, We employ a myriad of innovative, student-centered strategies to reach diverse learning styles, and we continually analyze formative and summative assessment data to drive instruction individualized for each student’s unique needs.
CMS is fortunate to have a School Improvement Council and PTO that are both engaged in our school and invested in the success of our school-wide events. Also, we are blessed with parental support for our athletic and fine arts programs, as well as Beta Club, Robotics and Builder’s Club.
Our students are the purpose of our work at Conway Middle School. Our mission is to provide all students a high quality education in a supportive, safe environment that enables them to be contributing members of a changing society. At CMS we believe, “Every Student Matters, Every Moment Counts”! We are grateful for the investment of time, resources, and energy you put in our students and for the support, you give to our school.
Sincerely,
Regina Treadwell Pertell, Principal
Zipporah Mischoe, School Improvement Council Chair
