Bryson Middle School is helping all students develop the world-class skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing a safe, caring, and academically challenging learning environment. We provide such an environment through the implementation of our school vision: Inspiring Excellence. We demonstrate this vision by challenging our students with best practices to reach their full potential and by the continuous professional development of our teachers.
Our teachers spent the year implementing year one our new STEAM/PBL instructional focus. We included students in our first year launch by creating a STEAM Student Council. We also have a new branding for our school created by one of our students. We were able to showcase our STEAM focus through community school and community projects such as participating in the iMagine Upstate STEAM festival. Again, this year, our School Improvement Council sponsored parent Lunch-N-Learn sessions on various topics related to PBL, internet safety and Chromebooks. We are excited about the instructional experiences our students have embarked upon.
We also are equally proud of our students’ accomplishments in academic, fine arts, athletics, and Agricultural education. Ten students were recognized as Junior Scholars and 46 were selected as Duke TIP Candidates. Many of our students have participated in local, county and regional band, orchestral or choral events. Several of our student teams have achieved county, state, and regional championships, including, Jr. Beta Club, Future Farmers of America - Creed Speaking, Parliamentary Procedure, and Tool Identification.
At Bryson Middle we also have various programs outside the academic world to focus on the development of the whole child. Our guidance counselors taught the 7 Habits of Effective Teens during classroom guidance lessons. Our students participated in multiple community service projects such as fundraising for non-profit organizations and volunteer services. Bryson Middle continued our partnership with the Backpack Blessings program to provide food over the weekend to our students. Our annual Career Day featured over 70 speakers representing all of the career clusters. As part of our STEAM/PBL focus, we collaborated with Bosch-Rexroth again this year, which involved our 8th grade Gateway to Technology students creating fuel-celled cars.
