Berea Middle School is helping all students develop world-class skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the Graduate through our partnership with the United Way through our life-changing initiative On Track Greenville. This initiative pairs together many different organizations such as BellXcell, Prisma Health as well as Communities in Schools. With all of these organizations working together, we are able to have a health clinic in our school as well as an advocate that works directly with students in each grade level. We also have a mental health counselor who works directly with students. Through these partnerships, we believe that each student that enters the doors at Berea Middle School can be successful with the proper supports put in place.
We have had several accomplishments and recognitions in the past year that show that Berea Middle School is the place to be. Berea Middle School was one of two schools in the Upstate to receive the Hallways to Health grant. This grant will provide our students and faculty the opportunity to come up with projects that promote a healthy lifestyle. Our awesome chorus group received an Excellent rating at the Carowinds competition. Our LEGO Robotics club won numerous awards at their district competitions. For the first time in years, Berea Middle School won the Campaign of Excellence for a great campaign were our faculty gave money for the United Way. We have also had many of our teachers to win awards and present at state and national conferences.
In order for our students to get the very best education and to prepare them for success, we firmly believe in professional development. We also want our teachers to be skilled in their craft which is why we provided many opportunities for professional development. 15 of our teachers attended the South Carolina Association of Middle-Level Education (SC-AMLE) Conference at Myrtle Beach, SC. We offered several sessions at school which included Mastery Connect Training, NearPod, FlipGrid, Google workshops as well as many others.
Parent Involvement is so important in a school. Our school hosts monthly parent engagement meetings as a way to involve all stakeholders. During these meetings, we discuss strategies and interventions to best assist their children.
At Berea Middle School, we believe that by “Building Relationships,” we are “Shaping Leaders” in every student.
