Johnsonville Middle School is helping all students develop world class life skills and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing a safe, caring, and academically challenging environment that is conducive to all students maximizing their learning potential. Our school provides such an environment through the implementation of our school motto: “Making the World a Better Place – One Child at a Time.” We exhibit this motto through the efforts of our teachers and students. Teachers continuously strive to stay abreast of current trends and best practices through attending various trainings and workshops. By using the current trends, best practices, and having high expectations, students are challenged to reach their full academic potential.
We are proud of our strong history of academic success. Our teachers are constantly seeking ways to improve professionally thus improving instruction and student learning. We have incorporated various programs to help with the challenges that students face in today’s society. Some of the programs are: TE 21, Accelerated Reader, Read to Succeed and ACE classes. The school had a reading and math interventionist and a behavior interventionist that assisted students with academic needs. Through the use of these instructional programs and strategies, many of the students showed individual growth by reaching their targeted growth goals on MAP testing.
At Johnsonville Middle School, we offer various programs outside of the classroom environment to help our students develop into well rounded individuals. JMS has two very active student groups on campus. Our Jr. Beta Club (JBC) provides qualified students the opportunities to take part in various service projects, as well as, participate in the JBC State and National Conventions. A Johnsonville Middle School student competed for the office of vice president. The JMS Jr. Beta Club placed in several categories at the State Convention. Students elected to the student council also took part in various service projects that helped the school and organizations within the community. Student council officers attended the Leadership Youth Rally. JMS was also awarded a recycling grant, and a sixth grade teacher was the recipient of the Santee Electric Bright Ideas grant. Other activities that afford students the opportunity to participate are: Jr. Crusaders, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Rock Band, Drama Club, and the Academic Challenge Team. The JMS Rock Band and Show Choir have performed at various functions within the school and community. The drama club had two major productions “Sister Act” and “Rock of Ages High School Version.” The productions at Johnsonville Middle School gym gave the community members, as well as the students, an excellent opportunity to experience live theater.
JMS offers students the opportunity to take part in athletic programs once they reach the seventh grade. The middle school athletic programs experienced another successful year. The middle school cheerleaders cheered at both football and basketball games. The middle school football team finished with a 4-0 record. The boys’ basketball team was the regular season champion and tournament champion. The boys finished 12-0. The girls’ basketball team had a 5-7 record. Many of the middle school athletes participated on high school sports teams such as volleyball, competition cheer, baseball, softball, golf, and track.
At JMS we believe it is the responsibility of all stakeholders to take an active role in the education of our young people. Thank you for your continued support and effort to help mold the future graduates and leaders of our community, state and nation.
