Many of our students take advantage of our Fine Arts Academy that includes opportunities in chorus, orchestra, theater, creative writing, piano, guitar, visual arts and band. Southside Middle School focuses on school-wide literacy and cross-curricular integration with the goal of providing our students with a strong background in literacy. We also have numerous extracurricular opportunities for students to further explore their academic and personal interests. Our athletics program is an integral part of our school where students learn the value of teamwork, goal setting, and perseverance. It is our mission to prepare our students to be successful both in and out of the classroom by providing them with solid academic experiences and diverse learning opportunities in an environment which focuses on having all students become creative thinkers who are prepared to compete in a global society.
Our Project Lead the Way courses such as robotics, design and modeling, and medical detectives provide our students with the opportunity to explore possible careers in science, engineering, and technology. These classes provide students with the opportunity to be creative, innovative, and enhance interpersonal skills. Southside recently received an award as a Project Lead the Way Distinguished School for our work in this area.
Southside continues to lead the way in innovation by providing our students the opportunity to utilize technology both in class and at home through our one to one technology initiative. Our school is in the third year of Chromebook integration which provides our students with unique opportunities across the curriculum. Additionally, our school is AdvancED STEM certified.
