Kingstree Senior High School is committed to providing students with the World Class Skills delineated in the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate through a rigorous curriculum, focused professional development, enhanced opportunities for students, and improved communication with parents.
A primary focus of our faculty and staff this year was to examine carefully our alignment of the written, taught, and tested curriculum. Teachers worked to improve the quality and rigor of their lessons, as well as their assessments. Teachers examined the intent of the standards and designed lessons and assessments to reflect the rigor necessary to address the standards at the appropriate grade level. Through classroom observations and a careful study of assessments, teachers were able to make adjustments, as needed, to improve their effectiveness.
Students were afforded opportunities to build world-class skills through project-based learning and other classroom activities that promoted problem-solving and critical thinking. Athletics, clubs, and organizations provided additional opportunities for collaboration and communication. Many students participated in our after-school activities, including Twenty-first Century and tutoring. This year, Franklin Covey’s tenets of leadership were established at the school through a district initiative. During our first year of implementation, our students were exposed to many of the world-class skills required of a South Carolina graduate.
Our School Improvement Council and Title I Planning Team worked cooperatively in an effort to involve more parents in school activities. Our students were exposed to business and industry through on-site visits, virtual job shadowing, and general assemblies. During this school year, the numbers of students attending Williamsburg Technical College for dual enrollment courses increased dramatically.
Through its curriculum, programs, and activities, Kingstree Senior High School is working to ensure that all students are prepared for college, careers, and citizenship. Our faculty, staff, parents, and business partners will continue to work together to help our students achieve success and prepare them for life after high school.
