“Committed to Excellence” was the theme for Woodruff High School during 2018-2019 school year. Hard work, commitment, involvement, and communication are essential to maintaining the level of excellence established by years of outstanding Woodruff High School alumni. The students and faculty of Woodruff High are continually blessed by a generous community that supports academic rigor, co-curricular excellence, and facilities that are second to none. The senior class received a cumulative total of $3,252,109 in scholarships. Over sixty-five percent of the class received some scholarship award. Eighty-one seniors received LIFE Scholarships and thirty-five seniors received HOPE Scholarships. Eleven seniors were named Palmetto Fellows and six seniors received the prestigious South Carolina Academic Award.
In addition to an excellent academic year, Woodruff High School had another outstanding year in the visual and performing arts. Five seniors collectively won ten Southern Scholastic Awards-Gold Keys, Silver Keys and Honorable Mentions. One student was named the winner of the distinguished Fourth Congressional District Visual Arts Award. The WHS marching band, The Cadets, placed twelfth in state competition and eighth in the upper state competition.
Success was also achieved in the athletic venue. WHS produced thirty-three scholar athletes. Five teams were crowned region champions and six were runners-up. Sixty-nine students were named All-Region athletes. Woodruff High School had fourteen All-State athletes and reached the playoffs in fourteen sports. Moreover, six Woodruff High School athletes were selected to a state All-Star team.
During the 2018-2019 school year, Woodruff High School continued to emphasize self-discipline, student involvement, communication, and caring attitudes. Throughout the school year, the traditions of WHS remained steadfast because of the involvement and commitment of the community, the students, and the staff.
Our goal in the 2019-2020 school year is to uphold the Woodruff High School tradition of leading the state of South Carolina in academic achievement, athletic accomplishments and artistic endeavors.
