Socastee High School is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Caroline Graduate. Socastee High challenges all students to demonstrate the characteristics of a graduate by excelling in academics, arts, athletics, service projects, and extra-curricular activities. Successes in these areas create life-long learners who will be prepared for the everyday challenges life presents.
SAT scores had a final average of 1103 for math and ELA. ACT scores continued to be above the national average with a 20.6. End-of-Course (EOC) test scores resulted in an 80.5% passage rate, overall. We had 13 students earn the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma for the 2019 school year. We had two National Merit Finalists. Our AFJROTC unit was named a distinguished unit for the 17th consecutive year. Our school year ended with 350 graduates; 270 received scholarship offers totaling over $20.3 million. Among the many talented students in the senior class, Socastee High School was privileged to have 205 LIFE Scholarship recipients.
Socastee High School enjoyed great success in extra-curricular activities. Our drama and music departments performed the musical, The Adams Family, to sold-out audiences, including matinees for elementary and middle school students. The marching band earned an excellent rating and placed 8th in the state at the 5A band competition. The Jazz Ambassadors continued their success earning a superior rating for the 12th year in a row. Athletics enjoyed another good year, winning 6 out of 18 region championships. The SHS Mock Trial team continues to perform well on the state level. The DECA program competed in the international competition in Orlando, Florida; Socastee HS has the second largest DECA club in South Carolina and multiple students are state officers.
Socastee High School continued to pay it forward in challenging students to put service to others before themselves. Socastee High School students came forward in a time of need for multiple events this year and raised thousands of dollars for multiple causes. Socastee HS sponsored three Red Cross Bloodmobiles through its leadership class to teach students how to be "givers". The SHS FFA, AFJROTC, and music programs held their annual Senior Citizens and Veterans Day luncheon for over 300 Senior Citizens and Veterans. Socastee HS athletes and ESOL students served as Reading Buddies at Socastee Elementary School. International Baccalaureate students provided holiday parties for special needs students at SHS. Band and Chorus continued elder care visits and concerts. Student Council also coordinated food drives and assistance for families in poverty and crisis. Socastee High School partnered with Chic-fil-A to start a Chic-fil-A Leadership Academy. This leadership academy completes a service project every year and this year they assisted homeless people with food and clothing. Socastee High School continued its focus on Success, Honor and Service for 2018-2019 and is committed to continuing our quest for overall excellence.
