Carvers Bay High School (CBHS) is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing students with the support and encouragement they need to achieve success in a global society. CBHS is fully accredited through AdvancED, a national accreditation body. Carvers Bay High School has established a tradition of excellence in academics, arts, and athletics that we are proud of.
In 2018-2019, students continued to build World Class Knowledge through varied and rigorous academic and artistic course and program offerings. The Advanced Placements course offerings continue to advance students towards college and career readiness. Individualized Graduation Plans (IGP) help prepare each student for career pathways. Honors, Advanced Placement (AP), dual enrollment courses, PLTW engineering and computer sciences classes and other opportunities are available to our students. Our one-to-one technology continues to be implemented throughout the school. The CATE programs continue to grow and offer students opportunities to participate in valuable learning experiences through internships and shadowing options. CATE students participated in state Skills USA competitions and earned recognition in a variety of areas. From Career and Technology Education (CATE) programs through the rigors of Advanced Placement courses, CBHS students are challenged to develop global perspective, learn from hands-on experiences, and develop life applicable skills.
The commitment to World Class Knowledge is evident in the tremendous efforts and accomplishments of the many programs. While academics are our main focus, extra-curricular activities, service projects, special programs and initiatives beyond the classroom are available to students to help them excel in other areas. Our students at Carvers Bay High School personify the Life and Career Characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate on a daily basis as well. Participation in athletics, MCJROTC, clubs, and performing arts prepares students with the work ethic and interpersonal skills required in life. The Bear athletic teams had another successful year, capturing several region championships. The Robotics Team, arts’ programs, BETA Club, Key Club, FBLA, FFA, and various other clubs received recognition throughout the year as well. Numerous students participated in the district honor chorus and band.
Our efforts continue with our faculty. Staff development opportunities are provided on an ongoing basis to enhance communication, collaboration, and creativity. Our teachers participate in district-wide collaboration sessions, Literacy Design Collaborative (LDC), Mathematics Design Collaborative (MDC), and other professional development opportunities designed to improve how teachers teach and students learn. Our entire faculty participated in team-building and relationship building exercises and book studies.
A dedicated and involved PTO, SIC, and All Sports Booster Club continue to provide leadership and vision in the quest for excellence at our school. The school and community remain committed to the success of all students served.
Our goal has been and continues to be to increase the number of students that meet readiness standards for post-secondary education and the workplace by adopting a culture of high expectations. Positive results will continue to materialize because of the hard work, dedication, and partnerships that exist between school staff, parents, community members, and the most important stakeholders in the equation, the student body.
