South Florence High School is helping all students develop the world class skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by:
-
Engaging our students in critical thinking skills through innovative learning opportunities
-
Encouraging students to create, design, and implement new ideas
-
Challenging our students to set goals and follow through with action planning
-
Focusing on rigorous teaching and learning opportunities in all areas of the curriculum
Many of our students take advantage of our Fine Arts Magnet Program that includes opportunities in chorus, orchestra, theater, dance, creative writing, piano, guitar, visual arts, and band. South Florence focuses on school-wide literacy and cross-curricular integration with the goal of providing our students with a strong background in literacy. We also have numerous extracurricular opportunities for students to further explore their academic and personal interests. Our athletics program is an integral part of our school where students learn the value of teamwork, goal setting, and perseverance. It is our mission to prepare our students to be successful both in and out of the classroom by providing them with solid academic experiences and diverse learning opportunities in an environment that focuses on having all students become creative thinkers who are prepared to compete in a global society.
Our Project Lead the Way courses such as introduction to engineering, principles biomedical sciences, and medical interventions allow students to explore career options in the areas of science, engineering, and technology. These classes provide students with the opportunity to be creative, innovative, and develop collaborative interpersonal skills.
Through a partnership with Francis Marion University, students have the opportunity to enroll in dual credit college courses that take place on our campus. The class of 2020 earned over $9.3 million in scholarships. Three seniors earned SC Academic Achievement Awards; fourteen seniors were named Palmetto Fellows, and 93 seniors earned Life Scholarships.
SFHS continues to lead the way in innovation by providing our students the opportunity to utilize technology both in class and at home through our one-to-one technology initiative. As we move forward, our goal is to provide our students with a strong foundation that will pave the way for continued success in our global society.
