Wagener-Salley High School is helping all students acquire the World Class Skills aligned with the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. We will accomplish this by integrating activities in to our school curriculum that are designed to develop our students’ critical thinking and communication skills. During the 2018-19 school year, we developed a vision statement for our students that included preparing every student with the skills necessary to be college and career ready. This means that our expectation for each student is that they will graduate with the knowledge required to transition into a two or four-year college or university, and graduate having the critical-thinking and problem-solving skills necessary to prosper in today’s workforce.
During the 2018-19 academic year, Wagener-Salley High School was able to celebrate success in different areas to include academic, social, and athletics. Students involved in the Jefferson Leadership Awards Foundation (Students in Action), worked hard and had a successful school year. They attended conferences and spearheaded our school district’s “Effect the Culture” campaign at Wagener-Salley High School. Because of this group’s efforts, Wagener-Salley High School was recognized for having the most support for Effect the Culture campaign. This campaign focused on school and communities committing random acts of kindness and posting these acts on social media. Wagener-Salley High School had the highest participation out of all ACPSD high schools. Our school’s Future Farmers of America (FFA), enjoyed a successful 2018-19 school year as well. This group won first place at the SC State Fair’s tractor driving contest, placed first in the Creed Speaking competition at the state FFA conference, and had one of our students to be elected as an officer for FFA at the state level. Our JROTC program received Honor of Distinction, the highest rating a unit can receive, during their assessment for accreditation. They also spearheaded several community events to include our school’s annual blood drive, Day of Caring, Palmetto Pride’s Litter Free campaign, and organized our Patriot’s Day program. In athletics, our football team celebrated a region championship, we had a member of our girls track team win the state championship in the shot put, and our boys golf team won the Class A state championship. Students enrolled in our fine arts program participated in a theater performance, and our marching band received recognition in multiple band competitions. During the 2018-19 academic year, Wagener-Salley High School earned double digit gains in the areas of Social Studies and English Language Arts on End of Course (EOC) assessments, and we increased our graduation rate by more than 6%.
Our school and its stakeholders look forward to honoring our school’s past, and contributing to our school’s success in the future!
